My dd is 14wks old and our routine is once she gets tired (yawning, fussy etc), then swaddle her up, turn on the white noise machine, and hold her for a few minutes, she usually falls asleep this way for naps. However lately, we swaddle her up and she starts to scream, I wonder if this is the end of swaddling for her? Is this how it happened for you?

My girls started breaking out and when they couldn't break free of the rest of it, around their legs, they were MAD! That was around 3 months for us, so we stopped then.

We stopped swaddling when they kicked out of the swaddle. They never screamed from it though.

We swaddled for naps and bedtime. I think once they went in their crib at 4 months-we stopped swaddling. They were still taking naps in their swing until just before 6 months-and they were swaddled until that point.

They were breaking out of them, and it was a pain trying to put them back in it. They outgrew it and were more comfortable moving around on their own. It was a lifesaver in those beginning few months though!

Mine are 5 months and we still swaddle.
They do break free, and DS really does fine without it, but DD just keeps yanking her paci out. I swaddle her for that reason mainly.

    Edited to fix typo.

I started weaning from the swaddle about 4mo when I got tired of getting up in the middle of the night to re-swaddle! I freed one arm each Friday but kept their lower half swaddled for a few more weeks because it was still chilly.
Then at 5mo (when they got the stomach bug) I stopped swaddling altogether.
    We use sleepsacs now instead.

We swaddled until 8 months. Yes, 8. And even then, we had to transition them out of the blankets. Mine would go through phases of crying when we would swaddle them, but we figured out that it was because they were overtired, not because of the swaddling.

We stopped for Sarah around 3 months because the daycare teacher told me that she was falling asleep without the swaddle for naps. I figured if she could do it for naps, she could do it for bedtime, and we might as well stop before it became more of a habit.

With Amy it was a little tougher. She started breaking out of it during the night at about 4 months, but swaddling her was the only way we could possibly rock her to sleep. If she was unswaddled, she just couldn't calm down enough to fall asleep. I kept swaddling her until 5 months, when I found her in the morning (several days in a row) with the Miracle Blanket just loosely wrapped around her body.

Two main reasons: 1, I was afraid what could happen if it got wrapped around her neck or over her face, and 2, I figured if she was waking up that way in the morning, she was obviously not waking up the instant she came unswaddled. So it was just a question of getting her to initially fall asleep without it. And we did that by combining unswaddling with CIO, which was ugly for the first few nights, but then it was over and it was like the swaddle had never been.

We're still swaddling the girls at night. They almost always have all their limbs free by morning but they don't wake up or fuss when they bust out of the swaddle. It really helps them go down at night and I'll swaddle them until they're 35 if I have to!

Mine are about 3 1/2 months and I still swaddle. I am dreading the day we have to stop. My boys will not sleep without it.

We stopped a few weeks ago. They are doing just fine without being swaddled.
