We've been putting gas drops in every bottle since the babies came home from the hospital. And I'm wondering now how long we should keep doing this? Is there a good age to stop gas drops? Or should I just stop them & see what happens?

I'd just stop them and see what happens, you can always start putting them again.

We still use them at nearly 10 months. I think you can use them as long as you think they are necessary.

We still do it, we're afraid to stop! Our kiddos are still pretty gassy!

I only give them to mine when they seem to need it, after eating. You could stop putting them in their bottles, and after eating, if they start fussing and you think they are gassy, go ahead and give them a dose orally. They work pretty quickly, at least on mine they do. We've not had any screaming fits for a few weeks now, due to gassy bellies.

Same here. Unless they are still really gassy, then I might be inclined to keep going. Dont mess with a good thing IMO.

During the day we give them as needed but we still put them in the night bottles every night. It was a trial and error thing to decide when to quit. You'll probably just have to see how they do.

just cuz gas drops are expensive, and the bottle is so tiny- i use mylanta for mine when they need it. the gi doc told us to use it for ds, so i use it for dd too, maybe 2-3x a week. 1.5ml regular strength, or .75ml extra strength. mine like the cherry flavor best.

Mylanta or Maalox – Check with your doctor first. There is not a pediatric version so use the regular bottle. There are different kinds available. The Mylanta Supreme with calcium was recommended for us to use. If you go to the website for Mylanta, they have a coupon for $1 off. They can be dosed at anytime but not within 2 hours of any other reflux meds so they won’t counteract each other. They can also be dosed up to 4 times a day. Some doctors do not recommend antacids before 6 weeks of age and others do not recommend them until after 6 months of age. If you notice any diarrhea while giving an antacid, it’s an indication that the dosage is too high and to back off a little on the amount.
