We moved the twins to toddler beds when they were 18m but only because they were climbing out of their cribs. We but their mattresses on the floor for them to get use to sleeping with the crib sides not around them and after a week or two we put the mattresses on the beds. Ty is 21m old and there is no way he going to be in a bed anytime soon. Hes just not ready. That and we are in a two bedroom home and he cant be in our room by himself:(

We switched to toddler beds at 19 months because they were climbing out. It was a smooth transition and they actually sleep much better in their big girl beds than they did in their cribs. Good luck!

The twins were about 2.5 when they moved into toddler beds because Audrey was then able to climb out. Evan is 2.5 right now and seems satified to stay in his crib. To be honest, being contained in the crib is the best thing for me. The twins were horrible about getting out of the beds & playing if they weren't 'guarded.' Good luck with your decision.

Around 18 months my girls both starting climbing out of their cribs, and that is when we made the transition. Had it not been for that, I would have left them in as long as they would tolerate it. With that being said, it was a smooth transition and we didn't really have any issues at all. Good Luck!!

Mine will be 3 in less than 3 months and they are still in their cribs. My oldest DS stayed in his cribs until 3.5. Mine don't climb out and they love their beds. I'm content with them being in there for as long as they want to, at this point! :) I cringe when I think about bedtime becoming (more of) a hassle b/c right now mine like to yell, "Mommy, cover me back up", "Mommy, can I have another book?", etc. - I can't imagine what they would be doing if they could get out of their beds to tell me this stuff and ask me to do things for them! :faint:

My DD was transitioned from a crib to a toddler bed at 19 months because she kept climbing out. My DS is almost 3 and he is still in a crib (a drop side one) and has (apparently) no desire to climb out. I would say in your situation, it's really up to you and what works best for your family. Good luck with your decision.

My boys will be 3 in January and are still in their cribs. They have not tried to climb out so I feel the same way you do.

I'll be going right to twin size beds and I'm thinking sometime between 3 & 4.

Their cribs do convert into a day bed and I'll probably start off with taking the side off and then making it offical with the new beds.

Worst case scenerio, I can always make them into cribs again.

My kids are 21 months and I plan to keep them in their cribs as long as possible. I don't want to deal with trying to keep them in their toddler beds. That said, I hear that some kids transition well without any major issues.

Mine were 3y3m when we moved them. They were happy in their cribs and had never even tried to climb out. (We did put up crib tents at about 24m.) The only reason I moved them was that they were getting so big, I was afraid they'd break the cribs with all their jumping. Also, I felt like buying new furniture. ;)

I think the longer you wait, the easier the transition is. Our girls were so conditioned to stay in their beds until wake-up time, it doesn't even occur to them to leave the room. (We had to tell them it was OK to get up and play in their room in the morning.)

Hope it works for ya!! I tried toddler beds at 24 mo. it was disastrous! we stuck with it for about 2 months... before I gave up and put the cribs and tents back up. life is much calmer now. maybe I'll try again once we get our bedtime back to being calm...
