    Hi,

Assuming everything is going ok, no complications (besides being extremely uncomfortable), when do you think most docs would agree to induce? I was thinking all along that I'd go to around 36 weeks (like we ever really know!) and just wondering if he would induce at that point. I have asked him but haven't really gotten a straight answer. Our twins have been measuring above average all along so I would think they'd be ready by then.

    what do you think?

My MW said she would not induce until 38 weeks unless it was for a complication.

I was also told 38 weeks, unless there was a reason to do it earlier.

    I don't think they'll induce till around 38 weeks - if I remember correctly.

You really don't want to induce at 36 weeks. While many many babies are fine at that time, many are not ready! I know you are SO uncomfortable, but hanging out and trying to bond with your babies in the NICU is WAY MORE uncomfortable!!

    Hang in there!!

same as all the others have said -- 38 weeks was the earliest (without complications)...
I know you want the babies out MUCH earlier because you're soooo uncomfortable but it's so worth it to have big, healthy babies :)

Different doctors say different things. My sister was induced at 37 weeks with a singleton, just because she wanted to be (no, I don't approve of that really).

I know someone in town who is now 38 weeks with twins and her Dr. won't induce her until 40 weeks!

    38 weeks, barring any complications.

My cousin had her twins at 37 weeks and one of her boys had a week of NICU time. THere are no guarantees.

  15. My doctor took me off the meds at 36 weeks and I had them that day (c-section) does that count as induction? I think the "norm" is 38 weeks, but the risk of cp and stuff goes down after 36 weeks thats why they wont usually stop labor if it begins after that time. I learned there isnt much you can do to "keep them in" etc. When they come they come....

I know pregnancy can get uncomfy at the end, but I'm a firm believer in letting the body and babies come when they are ready unless medically necessary to get them out sooner. Honestly, I don't really have a clue when my docs would start to consider induction in a healthy pregnancy. . . I'm having to face an early c-section around 34-ish weeks due to medical problems (TTTS). I'd give anything to avoid NICU for my babies, but I'm in a hard spot.

I think that most doctors will induce starting at 37 weeks but a lot won't do it until 38. Mine agreed to 37 because my bp was a little high and I was soooo uncomfortable. I know how miserable it is but having them in there that extra week or two can make a big difference. Hang in there :hug99: I reacted horribly to the pitocin and retained so much fluid that I was hospitalized 10 days after I had them for heart problems so if by any chance those little ones will come on their own, let them.

Our OB-GYN nor perinatologist ever mentioned the possibility of inducing before they "came on their own" unless a complication arose.
They did make it clear that if labor started prior to 34 weeks, they'd implement a delaying method; but after 34 weeks, they'd let them come.

At our 36 week and 4 day appointment, we had a very sudden and pronounced disparity in size b/w the babies, so they elected to induce.
(Both were born A-OK, no NICU, but as others have mentioned, every baby and mama is different.) We know now our girl is just smaller...predisposed to be tiny...but we have no regrets about the med team not wanting to take risks.

Were it not for the size discrep at that appointment, I truly don't think the med team would have encouraged us to bring 'em before my 40 week EDD --
BUT I was having no extreme discomfort (not that I was "comfy!"), and the babies were not inordinately large.

Most folks (mamas and docs) I've talked to elect not to intervene until 38 weeks...again, barring complications/risks.

    All the best to you!

My OB told me 38 weeks my entire pregnancy when I made it that far with no problems she said 39 weeks...I was scheduled for induction at 39wks 2days and my water broke the day before. My boys were both almost 7lbs., no NICU and I was home 2 days later.

According to my LMP, I'll be 37w3d when I have my c-section. The ultrasound put me at 38 weeks that day. So I'm definitely in between 37-38 weeks unless they come before then. I'm a little hesitant to go that early cause my children have been either late or right on time, but I also read that identicals should go around that time if they share a placenta cause the placenta could breakdown. It's a hard decision cause if I don't do it then, I'll have to go to Winnipeg to have my babies and that is 4 hours away. My Dr. leaves for out of town the following day and he is the only OB/GYN.

My OB and peri were in agreement that they wouldn't stop anything after 35 weeks, and 36.5 weeks was as far as they would let me go. We ended up starting induction at 35 weeeks 6 days, and the boys were born the next day. After 7 hours at 7 cm, they went ahead with the c-section. It turned out that Marc's head was crooked, and he would have never come out on his own, and labor would never have progressed--so I am glad they were willing to take the "early". Jon, who was bigger (at 6-10) spent 36 hours in the NICU, but was dismissed to the regular nursery. Both boys came home with me.
