When to get rid of Sippy Cups?

I always see info on this board about transitioning to Sippy Cups but not so much of transitioning out of them. They've been able to drink out of a cup for a long time but we've almost always done sippies for accident prevention. This weekend I've not given them a sippy and daddy is tired of refills, thirsty kids in the car, and accidents (though only two). So I thought I would ask...when did your sippy cups go "bye, bye?"

If u don't want to do sippy's how about the cups with straws (more grown up). We still use sippies if the kids want to drink in the living room and usually take the straw cups out with us.

Our oldest starting drinking from a cup at about 2 1/2, but we still use a sippy cup for her at times because she is bad about putting them down and the twins drink from them. She is really good at a regular cup or a straw, but it is more accident prevention and ease of use for us at this point. I do try to do all meals in an actual cup though. It's more a snack thing I guess.

Our girls have exclusively used straw cups since 18 months, and now always have open cups at the table, but still use the straw cups when they are "on the go."

at about 2.5 we stopped using sippies at home, but still sent sippies to the daycare and used them on outings. At three, we stopped using them everywhere except in the van. In the van, we still use our large sippies but without the valves.

We're not really using them now and it's by their lead. I still bring sippies in the car but they sit in the diaper bag and typically go unused. They'd rather wait until we get where we're going and use a water fountain or an open cup. If I hand them a sippy (wherever we happen to be), they immediately ask for the lid off. We do have an accident now and then but I hate washing the things more than I hate mopping up the occasional spill so I'm fine with letting them go. Oh, and they do their own refills for water (fridge dispenser) which is all they get between meals anyway.
