ok so I was raised with a little smack to the hand and told NO NO....and so I am advised to do the same thing with my kids but when is it the right time to start diciplining? I mean at almost 9 months should I be consistant with the NO NO and little smack or when are they old enough to know what I'm talking about...

I would do the "no, no" and redirect right now. I don't think they are at the age where they will understand their hands being smacked. Good luck!

At 9 months they dont know any better at all. I would just start with a "No."

A firm "No" and redirect to a new activity is what I would suggest! :)

Me too. I said "No, no, no" and shook my finger. I didn't realize I was doing the finger shaking until Ryan started saying "no, no, no" to his brother and shaking his finger! If you smack their hands, they will think it's okay to smack their twins' hands.

We do the firm, "no" and redirect around here as well.. but sometimes [esspecially with Rose, DD1] she goes straight back to what she was doing. After about 5-10 no's [gets firmer and firmer] and redirecting she looks at you and starts to cry and wants to be held.

As for the 'hand slappins' ^_^ I'm probably going to hold out another couple months [maybe even once they're a year old].

I say "no" in a very firm and stern tone and my DS understands me soooo well! He started playing with the high chairs and one nearly toppled over onto him so he is banned from going anywhere near them. He ventures near, looks at me and waits to see my reaction. Now he doesnt pay much attention to the high chairs. I agree with the PPs, slappings dont mean anything to them now as they´re too young to understand.
