I know this is probably really soon but I think this is our next big step. Im not going to dare try to potty train them at 16m but I was wondering when it was a good idea to get one in the house and have them get used to it and tell them about it? TIA Nikki
It wouldn't be a bad time. Are they interested in mommy going potty at all? If nothing else you can start talking up how mommy and daddy go peepee in the potty. All of mine so far have gone through a stage about 18mo where they were interested in the potty. DD even sat on the potty a few times before she got bored with it. She didn't train until she was almost 3. I am at that point now with the boys where they are just starting to actually train just shy of 3, but they also went through a phase where they liked to sit on their potty (but they had to be fully dressed).

No time like the present! With my girls it was always really obvious when they were pooping. So around 18 months I started putting them on the potty when I saw that they were pooping, but with no pressure for them to try to tell me when they had to go or anything like that--mostly to save diapers! If they happened to pee on the potty I always acted really excited and told them they had peed in the potty and that was really good. We've just recently gone diaper free at 30 months, so by most people's standards it was a LONG slow potty training process, but we never stressed about it and it worked well for us. It's good to have it there, if they ask about you can tell them about it. You can ask them if they want to use it "like big kids". If you can tell when they need to go you can put them on it so they begin to make the association.
