When to buy "real" stroller?

We are currently using the Double Snap & Go for our 8 week old twins and I'm dying to get a "real" stroller but I'm wondering if it's too soon. I thought I would really like using the DSNG but I have found that it's actually really tough to push and I actually have to lift it over certain cracks in the sidewalks in my neighborhood. I've been trying to get out and about for exercise and it's difficult when I have to stop and lift the thing (don't like to break my stride!).

Also, I worry that they get too hot sitting in their car seats, especially now that it's summer, and the visors on their car seats aren't shading them enough. Is it too early for us to get a side by side? We are considering the Baby Jogger City Mini or possibly the Mountain Buggy Duo and then we could just put the DSNG in the car for when we're out and about.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks!

I switched my babies to the combi twin at 3 months, they were born in feb so it was starting to get warm out, as well as they were getting heavy to carry around in their infant seats! As long as the seats have a good recline, and you don't mind having to wake them up every time you lift them in/out of their carseats and strollers, then I don't think it's too early. I don't have either of those strollers so I have no idea about the recline on them :)

i used a real stroller from birth. never had a snap n go.

phil & teds vibe. swaddled them both in the bassinet until they were too big for that. by 2m, mine had excellent head control and were fine in the toddler seats of the P&T as long as i reclined them. depends on the babies tho.. whenever yours have head control.

We didn't put them in a real stroller until they had sturdy neck control, btw 3-4 mos. Even then, if you jog, I would wait until at least 6 mos to jog with them. Of the two you mentioned, I would do the City Mini. We have the BOB Duallie and love it - the wheel can be locked or swivel.

I put my guys into the BOB Revolution Duallie at 9 weeks. I bought a sheepskin infant support that snuggled them in the stroller as they were still quite little, & I kept their seats fully reclined. I got rid of the supports when they were about 5 or 6 months old, which luckily for me was April/May & just the start of the really hot weather.

Generally, it isn't recommended to jog with your babies until they are at least 6 months old, mainly because their head is the heaviest part of them and it is such a strain on their little necks with all of the bumps etc during jogging. I really started running with my girls when they were around 12 months old - they love it, giggle all the while. Lately though, it has been so hot here (90 + for the past 10 days) that we are doing a sedate stroll around 8am & I am still a puddle after 5 minutes - bleah. And I figure I am just getting way to old to deal with all of the hills around my neighborhood. I had the same issues with the DSNG as you describe - I always felt like it was about to topple over, my sidewalks are so uneven.
