When potty training do you just put them in undies?

    Hi everyone,
This is new to me so I am full of ?'s. My DS just turned 27 mo. and has shown interest in the potty off and on for the past 7 mo. but would soon lose interest. On Thurs. we were at a play group and he said "pot" and pointed to his diaper. I assumed he was telling me that he just went as he has done this in the past. I took him to the bathroom and his diaper was dry and sure enough he went on the toilet. So I thought this is GREAT, let's start potty training. We got home and I put him on every 1-2 hours and kept reminding him to tell me if he had to go potty. He went a total of 3 times that day on the potty, 3 times the next day and 4 times the following day. I had him in a diaper and his diaper was wet at times. Yesterday he sat on the potty but never went, although did go poop. Do you think he is ready? He went to daycare today, so I am interested to know if he went today because there he would see other kids using the potty. Also I have read alot of people when they start potty training, let their kids run around in undies. He does have undies and loves them but does have accidents and then I am cleaning up carpets. Would it help to put him in undies? Thanks for all your input since I am new to this!

When I have decided to 'go for it' I have put them in undies, and just dealt with the few accidents that they had. It does sound like he is ready!!

Gerber makes thicker underwear and we hadn't had any go down their legs in them!

This is what I have done with all 3 of mine as well. I have never used pull-ups, always used underwear. Sounds like it wouldn't hurt to try with him.

Just one of my little guys is trained, but we skipped the pull-ups altogether too. I just put him in undies and said we need to go on the potty. The first few days, we had some accidents. But, I just stripped him down, changed his clothes and started all over again. By day 3, we were already there. It is awesome. He doesn't even wear a pull-up for nap, but does at night. I don't think my other DS is quite ready for it. But, I say go for it with yours!!!

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey everyone,
So last Thurs. we did start potty training and went with the undies on Sun. all the time except naps and bedtime. We have had our share of accidents. But in the last few days he has gone 3-5 times each day, which I think is good. Atleast enough not to stop anyway. He has had some accidents but I just remind him that he needs to go pee pee on the potty. TOday he even went and sat on it all by himself and went without me knowing. I am so proud of him. Hope this keeps up. Not sure what to do when we go out and about though? ANy suggestions? Maybe the plastic pants over the undies-he's not real fond of them but I could try it!

Sounds like it's going well! Going out for the first time was always scary, for me at least! I never did anything differently except for timing departure directly after a bathroom trip, and placing a plastic bag under them in the carseat, so I wasn't washing the carseat cover everytime they had an accident(I learned quick!). Other than that, I made those first few trips out very quick ones, made sure to make a trip to the bathroom wherever we were right before the trek home, and hoped for the best! Good luck!

If it's a short trip like to my parents house I just left them in their undies and put something under them (on their carseat) so if they did wet it wouldn't wet the whole seat. If we were going out shopping or something I would have them go as normal before leaving the house but put a pull up on over the undies. We would go again when we got to where we were shopping (if it was more than 20mins to get there) and then go again when leaving the store. But I always made sure they had the pull up on until I thought they were fully trained. My girls didn't like the plastic underwear either so that's why I did the pull ups. I still explained that they were not a diaper and were their going out undies and sleeping undies. My son I am doing the same thing and not using the plastic underwear but the pull ups.

OMG, we had a GREAT weekend with the potty training. He had one pee accident on Sat. am and one poop accident on Sun. but that's it! We even went out and he did great! Today I am a little worried as he is going to daycare and you know that can sometimes not be good. So guess we'll see what he comes home in. Hope this continues to be easy! I am in need of something easy in my life.
