When only one is sick

My two had their 15 month ped visit yesterday and received three shots (flu, hep a and prevnar). They were fine yesterday after the appointment. But today, Addison is not feeling well at all. Her leg has a hot red bump on it at the injection site, and she refuses to crawl or walk or put any weight on that leg. The only way she is happy is laying on my chest. I've had to put her down occassionally today to change diapers, make breakfast, etc, and she has cried really hard each time. I've given her tylenol and put a call into the ped already.

I feel so bad because I am basically ignoring Aidan. He is getting jealous and keeps trying to crawl on my lap, kicking Addison in the process. Thank God they are both napping now. But I am worried about the rest of the day.

How do you handle taking care of the one sick twin while the other wants your attention too?

This is one of those times when its hard to be a twin. Maybe while Addison is laying on you Aidan can sit next to you while you read a story. Or maybe set Aidan up with a special activity (do you have any toys he hasn't seen in awhile)? Hang in there and hope your DD feels better soon.

Honestly, times like this I resort to a bit of Sesame Street. If someone needs some snuggles, I need to give it. I have also found that sitting on the floor, with both legs outstretched allows for room for both of them to sit on me. I think Leighann gave some great advice too.

Do you have someone who can come over for a while and play with the other baby, I always had my mom or older son to help me out. I to have wondered how u handle that when u r by yourself. Good luck. Hope your lil one feels better soon.

I definitely used Sesame Street this morning (three episodes in a row), and I did the book thing too. Aidan is such a go-go-go boy that he really isn't into activities that require sitting. I tried holding Addison and "chasing" Aidan around the house because he loves that game, but Addison didn't like it when I was up and walking around.

We'll make it, but these are the times when having twins is tough!

Tylenol really won't help muscle pain. You should be using Motrin, I'm sure.

Sorry and YES this happens to me all of the time and will forever, probably. Oh the JOY of having twins, right?

    It's sooo hard!

You're right, motrin worked! I talked to the ped and he said to alternate motrin and tylenol every three hours for the next two days. I figured that is what he would say, but I wanted to call before I gave her that much medicine.

After she woke up, I gave her the motrin and a bottle of milk (since she wouldn't take it before her nap)... 20 minutes later she was her normal self.
