When longer stretches at night ...?

After a good night sleep thanks to our night nurse, the twins seem to be back to pretty much 3 hour stretches. I don't feel sleep deprived, even when she's not here, we still get a pretty decent amount of sleep (they go to sleep easily and I don't worry too much anymore like I did with my first, I am back to sleep in no-time).

The twins have done 2 nights with 4 hour stretches and Maxine has done 4 1/2 hours, but besides that, we're back to mainly 3 hours (or a little bit longer). I know it's normal, but I am spoiled ... my oldest dd was already doing 5-6 hours at this age, and 10 hours at 8 weeks. However she was born 3 weeks later than the twins were and she already was over 10 pounds at 2 weeks (twins were 8lbs7oz and 8lbs4oz at 2 weeks).

When did you start noticing longer stretches (like 5-6 hours)?

We are still doing 2-3 hours during the day but at night they nurse at 9 am, then 2am then 6-7am. This just started in the last week or so. I know babies that nurse need to eat sooner than babies that take formula! Your babies are great sized though. Ours are about 21 days younger than yours and they just hit nine pounds!

Angel, that sounds pretty good. Mine are ff as well. So maybe wait a little longer ... there is still hope!

They could be getting ready for a growth spurt too, mine usually go between 4-6 hours at night but for the past two nights DS has been getting up ever 2.5 screaming like he hasn't eaten since birth. They've both done this before, it goes on for a few days and then things settle back down.

Mine usually go 4 hours after their 8:00pm feeding, but other than that we are every 3 hours still, and they are on formula.

I feel your pain. Mine just sort of transitioned from waking every 3 hours to sleeping 10 hours!! I think it really relates to thier wieghts and what their bodies can tolerate. (11lb 14oz and 9lb 10oz at thier last appt)

My pediatrician said it's about weight, not age. He said I shouldn't expect to get 6 hours until they are around 14 pounds...

Last night we got 4.5 hours and I swear I feel like a new woman!

They are 9 pounds and 10 pounds now, so I have a ways to go!

I was talking to a friend who is a doctor the other day & she said the "magic weight" seems to be around 12 pounds. When they reach that weight, they seem to start sleeping through the night & for longer stretches. It seems to be true for my two, they have been sleeping through the night (8 or 9 hours) for several weeks now, around the time they reached that magical 12 pounds. Hang in there! [IMG]

My oldest dd did 10 hours at her 2 month appointment (she was 13lbs13oz at that point) and 12 hours straight at 4 months (16lbs10oz) ... so if it's weight ... then their birth weights should be in my favor ... My oldest dd was just 2 pounds heavier at the 2 weeks appointment than the twins.

Last night we got a 4 hour stretch (9-1) and then 2 - 3 hour ones, but they go back to sleep very easily so that helps.

We'll be patient and keep waiting.

Both my boys are sleeping good stretches and have been since they were about 9 weeks old, and they are BF'ed. Interesting about the weights! One is almost 10 lbs and the other is about 11 1/2 lbs.

Ours are 9 weeks and their longest stretch has been about 3-4 hrs, at different times. They've really only done this a couple of times. Our ds is about 12 lbs and our dd is 11 or so. I also bf exclusively. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated!!! We would love it if they could do a 4 hour stretch at the same time!! TIA!!

Well, I think we're just lucky [IMG] I noticed that they cluster feed, and it's like they tank up. But other than that, we haven't really done anything different. Sorry I couldn't tell you anything else!

That is still pretty good... I don't think mine were doing 3-4 hour stretches until the 3rd month... Jack was up all hours of the night with his reflux problems, and thus of course keeping Zack awake.
