It's been SUPER hot where I live lately.... tomorrow it's supposed to be 97. My twinkies just turned 1 year. Do you all still head outdoors for a bit despite the extremly hot weather or just have fun indoors?

we still try to get out, but only for 15-20 min, in the shade, lightly dressed with tons of sunscreen and water. We always try to "schedule" it early in the day or late in the afternoon when the heat index isn't at it's peak. When they were that age, we did the splash pool a LOT b/c it helped keep everyone cool and they were still easy to handle with just one parent. Have fun! There's plenty to do inside if you have don't feel comfy outside :)

I generally will fill the kiddie pool and let them cool off in there. we don't stay out for very long.

If it's really hot I would go out only in the evening. At least then you avoid the hot sun. Those were mall days for us at that age.

We're not quite that hot but we have been peaking into the 90's. My boys are earlybirds anyway  so I'll get them out there early in the morning (8:00-9:00) and DH gets them out there in the evenings after dinner.

Nope, super hot days around here usually mean a lot of humidity. If it is bad we stay inside until the evening. Tomorrow they are saying around 100, we'll be inside.

It's been very hot here too. We either go in the morning sometimes or late in the evening. But we usually stay in on hot days.

Ditto for us too. Or we'll go to the pool for an hour.

We go outside with lots of sunscreen and I put the kiddie pool in the shade of a tree. The twins did that today. They had FUN pouring water on each other. I let them play with plastic cups and tupperware containers. We do get outside because it is just as hot inside. NO AC!! :(

Well, to the pool, yes. But tomorrow we are headed into the city (NYC) for their cousin's 2nd birthday party and well, it's at a swanky apartment on Fifth Ave and I wanted to take them across the street to the playground in Central Park (75th St) -- but well, we'll see, if it's a DRY heat and we're well hydrated and sunscreened, okay...maybe...

Not really. If the sun goes in at the end of the day we'll go out for a bit or just before lunch for a quick half hour or so. I so hate the south and wanna move back to CO where we always were outside.

Just getting really hot here ... morning walks in the stroller or outside watching birds, middle of the day we stay inside or sit outside on front porch in shade briefly, and maybe a sprinkler or pool session for a few minutes in later part of the day, as long as it's shady. Otherwise, fun activities inside all day long!!!!

I like to go out early in the morning, in the evenings we get attacked by mosquitoes. I try not avoid going out for fun stuff like rail fanning, birthday parties and picnics with other families. Swimming it is a great way to keep cool.

Some days, I do like to stay inside my cool air conditioned house especially if we spent a lot of time in the sun the day before. We live in the south and although I love the fact that we can go to the park in December wearing a sweater, I miss the North.

We go out as soon after breakfast as we can manage, back in by 9:30-10:00. We might go somewhere like the mall to walk aound & get out of the house. The one by us has a great climbing area for the kids.

Not usually in the mornings b/c the sun is right in our backyard...but around 3-4 pm the shade is in our backyard and not in the direct sun. So, that's normally when I take them out.

I grew up in an area where Summer days are normally over 100. I guess I don't think it's that big of a deal. I slather on the sunscreen, dress them in onesies, and make sure they get plenty of water. We have lots of trees so it's easy to stay in the shade.

I won't take them out to the park or anything or even for a walk on those kinds of days. But I will go to run an errand that is in an air conditioned store. Or, I will set up the kiddie pool for them in the backyard and let them splash around for a little bit.

When it's hot and humid I do not take them out unless it is to the pool.

Its been in the 90s here most days, so we'll eat breakfast out on the deck and play until it's too warm and if it's cooler at dinner time we'll eat out there too.

After naps we may hang out on the front porch since it's all in the shade in the afternoon. Sometimes I'll fill a bucket with water and give them old paintbrushes to "paint" the porch, their feet, each other, etc. But I do keep them out of the sun when it's so hot.

Even on really hot days here, it's usually OK in the morning, so I go outside then. Fortunately they are napping at midday when the heat is the worst, but in the late afternoon I will take them swimming (with DH) or to the library or something. I hate being outside in the heat -- I think it bothers me more than it bothers the girls.

NO WAY! I stay inside with the central air.

It's not good for them to be outside on hot days like that...

My girls are 4 and I still dont let them outside for very long. Its been 105- 108 here. We play outside in the pool for an hour and in the front yard that 1/2 of it is all shaded most of the day. They have their water bottles and we wear lots and lots of sunscreen. I have taught my girls that sunburns cause wrinkles and they wont go outside without it!!

Well it's always hot here!!! In AZ. So unless it's a really bad day out , we usually just try to make it home by noon. It works great as that's when lunch is and then they watch Barney and Tellatubbys that come on from noon to 1pm, then it's nap time. We also go to the library twice a week, to the zoo once a week (they have a water area their and lots of shade) and a then to a splash park with our twin group once a week. Then on the weekends we try to hit a museum or event where we can keep cool inside. We also have a wading pool out back under our patio that has misters, so in the afternoon we go out their sometimes to play.

So that's how we beat the Heat here, Good luck, and don't forget the sunscreen.

you poor baking babies need to take a road trip to northern WI. camp in my back yard. This morning it was 50. we stayed inside b/c it was cool. no pool the last several days b/c of rain and too much wind when the sun was out. too cold to swim. but yes, even on the rare day that we break 80 degrees, we still get outside with lots of water, sunscreen, trip to the lake, break out the kiddie pool, poor water on each other, drink from the hose (bad mommy), and eat ice cream.

It's been over 100 F here the last week or two. Not fun! The kids will go out lathered in sunscream (as my 4 yr old calls it :acute: ) and play in our little pool. If we don't have the water in the pool they WILL NOT go outside! It's too hot! We do alot of things in our nice central air!

Like a PP said-it's ALWAYS hot here! :D It's been 112-116 most days this past couple weeks and 30% humidity-which is a lot for us. But we go outside every day.

They boys (and I for that matter) REALLY need some fresh air and a change of scenery. We have a solid tiled roof gazebo in the backyard (where DH and I got married) that we have closed up with a baby gate so we have lots of shade and we either 1. play with the sand and water table - with water only and I continuously "baste" them with water to keep them cool or 2. play in the inflatable play pool. We go out from 10-11am each day. Of course we drink lots of water during. The boys really love going outside to play and playing in the water really is the only thing we can do this time of year.
