When it rains it pours!

When it rains it pours. It seems like that statement has been true this week. Jenna had a cold over the weekend and on Monday she developed a fever of 103.8. It took a couple of hours but we got it down. We kept her home from daycare on Tuesday and I took her to the doctor because she was getting worse. It turned out she had RSV that turned into broncilitis (spelling) and a minor ear infection. She had not been eating much either. She usually drank about 28 ozs of forumla and only took 8 ounces yesterday. Noah was fine but he had a little cough that we just shrugged off as congestion. Well today I had to take Jenna back to the doctor because she started to wheeze real bad and was still not eating much. They gave her a breathing treatment which did not help at the time. He gave me a prescription for the nebulizer and albutor. Right now she seems comfortable but she is still wheezing pretty bad. He said that if things do not get better by Friday then they are going to put her in the hospital. I'm hoping and praying that doesn't happen because my Noah was just hospitalized last month for three days.
Well after I get done with Jenna and picking my older daughter up from school I pick up Noah from daycare and find out that he is not doing very well. It looks like he has the same stuff that Jenna has. He is wheezing a lot worse than she is and is just not comfortable. It looks like I may be taking another child to the doctor tomorrow. I did talk to the doctor about giving Noah treatments to since he had some congestion and he said that was fine. He had his first dose but that has not done anything yet.
Does anyone know how long it takes for babies to start feeling better. I'm just so worried that one of them may end up in the hospital. I'm worried about my Noah now because his immune system is not as strong as Jennas and he has already been hospitalized once. He was hospitalized last month for a very bad ear infection and high fever.

Thanks for listening to me vent.

I'm so sorry they are sick. I don't have any experience with RSV, but wanted to stop by and offer :hug99: and well wishes that they are better soon.

Both my babies had it in Dec, they were wheezing pretty badly as well,it was scary. They did not have to go to the hospital - it lasted about 10-12 days, they were over the worst of it after about 7 days (then they got ear infections :( )
I hope it goes as smoothly as possible for you all.

Both of my girls had it the beginning of the month. I called the nurse about it when they first got sick because they were wheezing and she told me not to come in, it was just a cold. I had breathing treatments from my older child so I started giving them to them both. They really seemed to calm down after I would give them one so I usually did one before bedtime to help them sleep. When my oldest child had it several years ago, I was told to give them to her every 4 hrs., I only gave them to the twins twice a day. We also did a humidifier in their room and they were on Motrin or Tylenol a lot. Both of them ended up with ear infections also so we did eventually end up in the doctor's office. Of course, she told me they were getting over RSV. Duh, I already knew that! I shouldn't have listened to the nurse although the doctor said there isn't much they can do for them. She did give me 3 boxes of Albuterol though so I have some for the future if necessary. We survived though, but it was a rough 2 weeks. They both wanted held a lot and didn't sleep great and my toddler was so jealous of all the time we were spending with them. Good luck, I know it's really hard especially with 2 sick babies! Also, keep pushing fluids with them - water, diluted juice or formula/milk (I was told that milk increases their mucus so you might offer the other fluids between feedings.)

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. We are trying to push more liquids into Jenna. We diluted her formula with pedialtye. She has not had many wet diapers today. Normally when she wakes up fItirst thing in the morning her diapers are soaked through her clothes. This morning the diaper was very light. She did have one diaper that was pretty wet but really nothing since then so we are keeping a close eye out for that. The breathing treatments do seem to help her a little bit. Noah, my little piglet, who will everything in sight and will eat anytime you offer him anything did not even touch his bottle. We tried but he just turned his head. I know he doesn't feel well when he doesn't eat. My oldest daughter is 6 so it has been a while. I forgot how tough this stuff is when they are sick, but when there are two watch out.

I think the doctor is overly cautious (good thing some times) but he does know what he is doing and what he is saying. He did tell me that if I was not comfortable with her at home then he would have put her in the hospital because she could get her fluids from the IV and have oxygen if she needed it. Right now, I think the best place for her is at home.

Lets hope for some sleep tonight, but I doubt that.

Oh - i do hope they get to feeling better soon. Keep in mind that it is all cyclical (sp?) and a bad today (or week) makes for a good tomorrow (or next week!).
