When is your DH/DP taking leave from work?

    Hi everyone.

Coming out of lurkerdom for a bit ;)

My DH has 5 weeks annual leave booked from when I would be 39 weeks pregnant. Obviously, now I'm having twins it is unlikely I'll make it that far...so when do you think he should change his leave to?
It's even more complicated as I will be giving birth at a hospital 8hrs drive away from home (closest twin-delivering hospital!) & will need to move close to the hospital from 32 weeks.
ATM I am thinking of seeing if DH can change his leave to when I would be 37 weeks...but really have no idea!

    Thanks

My husband will be finishing out his service and retiring from the US Army just before Christmas, when I will be about 33wks. He is going to be staying home with our 3yo and the twins after they are born, so it works out! I will probably be working from home or on leave at that point, so it'll be good to have him home during the day

My girls were born on Wednesday Jan 3 my dh went back to work Monday Jan 8. it sucked. I honestly would not have cared if he was off any before the babies arrived but after would have been very nice!! I know there is no way to know when they will arrive but if your dr schedules your induction/c-section I would have your dh take from that day on. 5 weeks will be very nice!! CONGRATULATIONS on your babies!!

Honestly it is so hard to say. You will really want him to be home with you after the babies are born. Does it have to be set in stone, or can his work be a bit flexible about when he takes off, meaning can he call at the last minute and say your in labor, I'm taking my leave now?

Thanks for your responses. I think it's just more complicated because DH will be at home while I'm away from home near the hospital. It is an 8hr drive to the hospital from home, however he will be able to fly over (a 1 hr trip)...I had a short birth last time & am just a bit worried that he wont make it over in time...Even if he flies over, there is no guarantee he will be able to get on the next flight & it would still be at least 4 hrs before he could get to the hospital.

I think we will change his leave to be from when I am 37wks & then I will just play it by ear - depending how things are looking at my antenatal appointments.

    So much to think about!
