When (if ever) does the noise stop?

I'm very sensitive to noise/sound. I have to sleep w/ ear plugs. I have vertigo and dizziness. I expected the baby crying phase. But this terrible 2 toddler noise is making me insane. do they EVER get less loud? Do I still have years ahead of nonstop (and I really mean nonstop - unless they are asleep, which sleep is dwindling alot) noise. the whining, crying, screaming, babbling, fighting, etc...... shouldn't i be used to it by now? why does it just seem worse and worse to me (accumulative). I NEED some peace and quiet. Somebody pls tell me it's a phase (and not going to go on forever)??????????????

    anyone else sensitive to noise/sound?

As their communication skills increase, you should see this start to phase out a little. They will eventually get a little less loud on a constant basis. They are always going to have moments where they are having a knock down, drag out, hair pulling, scream fest. As they get older it just happens less often. The volume seems to increase to me. My oldest two dd's are both in a screaming at each other and door slamming phase (when they are fighting). I hear it ends when they move out....

They have a great vocabulary. They know alot of words and we understand most of what they say (and mumble). yet still, the noise. i can't take 16 more yrs.

anyone know of a way that i can make myself deaf?

Well I don't know about other people's kids, but things are always fairly loud around here while they are awake. As I type this they are musical instruments. And we are currently in a fighting over everything, whine at the drop of a hat phase.

Mine are 3 1/2 and it depends on the day around here. Like right now you wouldnt ever guess there were 2, 3 yr olds and a 10 month old in the living room. But Max and Ruby are on and all is good. :D
To me, it just sounds like you need a break. I know I would go nuts if I didnt get away and have some quiet time to myself.

Sorry- mine are noisier as 2 yr olds than they ever were as babies!!!

Can you get outside at all-that tends to 'spread' the noise out a bit more. Can you wear earmuffs/earplugs just enough that you can hear them , but it tones it down a bit for you??? I do that when I get migraines and *have* to keep being mommy since no one else is here and they are not purposely being noisy...just 2.

Hope the day goes Ok for you!

I don't have it as bad as you but the whining/crying gets to me. Sometimes I put in ear plugs. I can still hear everything but it reduces the noise level and I feel more relaxed. I also try to get some "me" time. There hasn't been any permanent fix, but I am hopeful that things will improve as they develop more voacabulary (especially with one of my girls who is very sensitive and whines/cries a lot, sometimes all day). My one DD who is more sensitive tends to really enjoy toddler activities so I try to get us out in the mornings, and we do classes, mommy groups, etc. The days we are home all day tend to be more whiney.

I am also very sensitive to sound, I can't stand loud it really bothers my ears. I will often times ask them to calm down or go in another room. We have a fan on in our bedroom at night which makes a nice lulling sound and drowns out all of the noise, before I had to have monitors on I would also wear earplugs.

I know I've posted it before, but I'm also sensitive to conflicting noises. One loud noise isn't too bad for me, but things like the TV on plus whining/crying, will bother me. Even more overlapping noises will start to trigger anxiety and panic attacks.

The whining and crying has lessened. Now it's nonstop talking (Bea!) and occasional fighting. It is better than just hearing "eh eh" and crying, but every once in a while, I have said "let's be quiet for a bit". I saw on "Jon and Kate + 8", she instituted "quiet dinner" where no one is allowed to talk, and I can't say I blame her!

For some reason I'm really good at tuning out people noise :) , but machines set me right on edge! I had one of my supervisors ask me once why I never worked in the ICU or ED, she thought I'd be good at it. And I had to tell her honestly, all the beeping and buzzing would have driven me nuts, would have loved the work, but couldn't handle the noise!

I'd also try earplugs during the day and see if that at least brings the noise down a notch so it's tolerable for you. I've had to wear them in hearing conservation areas of factory floors and I was really surprised that I was able to have a conversation with someone but the machinery noise was so dampened.

I have suffered from migraines for years, but even when I am not having an attack, I am still terribly sensitive to loud noises.
