When does the longest sleep stretch "typically" occur during night sleep?

Ours continue to wake about every 3 to 3.5 hrs a night (sometimes even every 2). I exclusively bf. Last night they both had their longest sleep stretch from about 730 to 11pm. I was so grateful to have slept from 8 to 11! They did another pretty good stretch after their 11:00 feed time. They slept from about 1130 until 2am, which is good for them. When does the longest sleep stretch typically emerge first? The first or second. I'm looking for any signs of possible future 10 to 12 hour sleep stretches. THANKS!!

My experience with my oldest, and also with these twins is that the first stretch is always the longest and then they basically keep on pushing until earlier and earlier in the morning. The second stretch is always only about 3-4 hours.

My twin girl just broke her record last night, 7 hours (she's following her big sister's foot steps!!!), from 8 til 3, but my twin boy only did 8-12 and 12-3, but they were back on the same schedule at 3 and then they both woke a little before 6.30 am. My ds's longest stretch is 5 hours, usually 5, then 4, or 5 and then 3, but also 2 times 4, or like last night, 4 and then 3.

I always try to put them down between 7 and 9 pm, depending on how the feeding schedule works out (there is no real consistency yet).

WOW! That is pretty awesome, and they're so young! Also, thanks for the information!

I also exclusively nurse and our longest stretch is from 11 pm - 2:30 am. After that its every 2 hours and some days every hour. I wouldn't count on consistency this early on.

    I exclusively BF, too.
Mine started sleeping from 7:30pm to 3am at about 5-6 months and still do that. They wake to nurse then go back to sleep until 6:30 am.
Until then, they would get up to eat every 3-4 hours.

One paper that I read about sleeping said to keep them awake for two hours before you put them down for the night. Also, give them a late bedtime, like 10 or 11 to begin with and slowly work your way back. My babies have pumped breast milk with fortifier since they were preemies. HTH

Wow!!! I'm so jealous of the 7 hours stretch. I'm trying to establish a bedtime with mine now. I start trying to get them down around 8pm. DD generally goes to bed easy, but is up again at 12,4,6 or 7. DS is a little harder to get down initially, usually I don't get him to sleep until 10-11pm (he seems a little colicky), then he'll sleep til 3, then 6 or 7. It just depends. We really have no schedule whatsoever yet. They were 5 weeks early, so I'm giving it a little more time, before I push a schedule..... 7 hours would be AWESOME though--- GOOD JOB! What's your bedtime routine?

Honestly I have no routine, and I really feel the need for one, but I just haven't figured it out yet in combination with my oldest, who goes to bed at 7 pm. We are just making sure that they have their last bottle between 7-9 pm. We feed them in our bed room (dark), swaddle them and put them down or we lay down with them for a few minutes until they get drowsy. We go to bed when they do, except when we have our night nanny (3 nights a week), then we wait for her until 10 pm and then we sleep til 6 am. I have never liked 10-11 pm feedings (I don't like going to bed late), so that's why we try to make it work with an earlier bed time. I hope to get them down at 6.30 pm (before my dd) in the end. My oldest was also an awesome sleeper (still is), 10 hours straight at 8 weeks, 12 hours at 3 months and 13 hours at 4 months, so maybe it's genetic (?!). She was over 9 pounds, and my twins were pretty big too. The girls really look alike, very easy and mellow.

About my dd's 7-hour stretch. I was up after 5 hours. She was making so much noise and she was kind of crying but not really, but she never woke up. I was happy I left her for 10-15 minutes, otherwise I would have spoiled it all. So definitely don't get them right away.

Mine always have slept their longest stretch when they first go down. After that it's anyones guess.

Keep in mind that each child is different. With my twins the longest strech was 11pm-3am each night (until 4-5 months). Sometimes we could even go 11-4. But, with my singleton...she cat naps/feeds non stop from 7pm-11pm. Then she will sleep from 11pm-6am. I also bf her. The first time this happened I thought it was a fluke. She has sleep like this for over 2 weeks now.

At 2 months, I put them down for the night at 7. They were up to feed around 11, 2, and 5, up for the day at 7. The first feeding to drop was 11 and it went at 9 weeks of age. At that time, the 2AM feed moved to 1 then gradually moved later and later until it was 3 or 4. They then dropped the 5AM feed and were waking once between 3 & 4 for a loooong time. We didn't go 12 hours on a consistent basis until 11 months.

Thanks all for your responses! Our dd for the first time did a 7 hour stretch last night!!! Our ds regressed a little last night, guess we need to refocus on him. Oh, and the longest stretch for her was the first one. THANKS again!

I'm so impressed. My babies eat every 3 hours and every 4 hours. But, at night they make noises all night. It is hard to get sleep when they are grunting all night. They also have a cold, so I don't think we will be getting any 7 hours stretches for awhile.
