When does it end?

My girls are almost 16 months old. For the last month or so they have become incredibly clingy. They just aren't happy unless I am holding them. DH can't hold them, grandparents can't hold them, unless its me, they blow a gasket. I'm a little concerned that this will continue and then what will I do when the new baby comes.

Also, what about having a complete hissy when they get theiry diapers changed. It is like WWF when a diaper needs to be changed.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It's already started here and mine are only 13 months. Oh joy, still a long time of this ahead to look forward to. LOL

I have one little clinger too. If I'm busy, I just tell him, Mommy is doing something right now, I will hold you when I can. He might cry, but I have things I need to do. Eventually, he will give up and go play with his brother. As far as the diaper changing goes, my boys are horrible too. I hate getting them dressed in the morning and changing any diapers during the day. I do have a little singing snowman by the changing table right now and this seems to distract them. I then change them very quickly before the song is done.

Oh yes! I remember that! Two years ago at Christmas, I literally walked around with Melissa clinging to my leg. I was not allowed to leave the room without her freaking out entirely. Tough age.

When does it end? Gradually, but I think we were through the worst of it in a couple months.

Thanks for this post Jenn. S is so clingy. He needs to always be holding at least my finger! He throws himself at me! I feel for you that both of yours are like that. It is tough. Oh, and the diaper changes. Those are difficult too. I now have to hold them down very forcefully (meaning I have to use all the muscle I have!). I cant wait fotr that to pass too.

You mean it actually ends? LOL

Our WWF diaper changes started on their first bday. For a period of time I had to change them on the floor with one leg thrown over their torso.

The still pitch a fit for the diaper changes, but know that it's happening anyway and have to deal.

Clingy-ness for us peaked at about 18m. We have a split level with the laundry facility downstairs and our main living area upstairs. Everytime I need to change the laundry I have to go over the gate which set off a full-scale panic attack in BOTH boys.

They are getting better about it, but still have their moments.

Sorry, no real advice. I can't IMAGINE this phase with morning sickness/pregnancy exhaustion. Kudos (and a BIG hug) to you!

It ended gradually with Dave and Emma at about 2-ish. My guys are cling-ons right now. I literally walk around the house with James attached to my leg or holding my shirt and carrying Sean. Then I put Sean down and he hangs onto me as well.

I wish I knew what to tell you! It comes and it goes. :hug99: Hang in there. They might sense the change coming and you'll need to talk to them about it to let them know.....LIKE I HAVE CLUE! (Sorry! You probably already are!) Maybe try to get them distracted with some big puzzles that have the nobby handles or something. Then maybe you can sit with them and help a little without holding. :hug99:

I'm also now remembering I'd repeat over and over as I was leaving the room, "I'll be RIIIIIIIIGHT BAAAAACK..." It appears that after a while they started to believe me.
