I'm trying to figure out some rules to follow with sunscreen. Hoping you can help me out.
For example, should they wear sunscreen for the 10' walk to day care at 8am or the walk back at 2pm? How about going out at 6 or 7pm? How about if they will be in the car? Should they have it on even if it's not a sunny day?So far my rule for the girls has been if I need sunglasses they need sunscreen but I think it's probably not a good enough rule.
Also should my 2 month old wear sunscreen? One pedi says yes and one says not till he's 6 months old. I've been making sure if we're out in the sun he wears a hat and long sleeves and long pants but I'm not sure that's enough.
    I'm so confused...

I put sunscreen on them before we go to daycare. I know they do apply sunscreen at daycare before they go outside, but I like to make sure so I do it myself at home before we drive there. The nanny (T/Th) puts it on before they go outside. We re-apply after nap, if we're going back outside. It doesn't matter if it is sunny or not.

I never had the need to put sunscreen on them prior to 6 months, not sure on that one.

My rule is that if we're playing outside then I put sunscreen on girls. I don't put it on for the times we're going to a store or if we're running errands in the car. Car windows block the UVB rays that cause sun burns. I also don't put sunscreen on if it's after 6pm. My girls are really fair skinned and the sun is brutal here in New Mexico, but so far they haven't gotten even a hint of a sunburn, so I think it's working for us.

We put it on every morning before we go outside. If it is a particularly cloudy day, no, I usually don't. I don't put it on after 6 since the sun is beginning to descend and our yard is very well shaded. I don't put it on for a car ride or for a short walk somewhere. But, if there is any chance of being outside in the sun for an extended amount of time, I put it on.

I put it on the girls when we get dressed in the morning. I know that daycare puts it on them during the day, but I like to make sure all areas are covered. I don't put it on if we are running errands and will be inside most of the time.

i put it on if we are going to be outside. if we are going for a car ride or to the store i don't. i don't put it on after 6 but then we are usually inside at that time anyway. if it is cloudy out then i don't either. my ped suggested a sunblock called blue lizard. he said even the dermatologist suggests it. he said it works great and is even safe for newborns. that's how gentle it is on the skin. my DS broke out in a rash when i put water babies on him and neutrogena. i ordered the blue lizard and haven't gotten it yet. couldn't find it in the stores i was looking in.

If we're going to be out for more than just a few minutes, they get sunscreen. I just never want to take chances.

The 10 min. in the morning, I probably wouldn't. At 6 or 7 at night, probably wouldn't.

I'm not sure about the 2 month old. I have heard about the six month rule myself, so I think if it were me, I would follow that.

I put suncreen on if we are going outside for any period of time longer than 20 mins between the hours of 10 am-3pm when the sun it at it's worst. We swim a lot and always go after 3 pm to avoid those worst sun rays.

My girls are very fair like me so we all put 50+ sunscreen on every morning before we get dressed. I slather it everywhere just like moisturizer and then put their clothes on. Even if I'm in the sun for a couple minutes in the car I get red, so I don't take any chances with the girls. My sitter reapplies if they are going outside in the afternoon or if they get wet. We started using sunscreen with the girls after 6 months (got the ok from the pedi), before that they wore long pants and shirts and hats.

I put sunscreen on my 3 month old. I would rather have him protected from the sun when we are out and our pedi said it was fine as well. I put sunscreen on the twins everyday, but not very religiously throughout the day. My guys have really dark complections and so I tend to think that they won't burn. That though is not a good reason for being lazy with suncreen sometimes.
