when do you stop washing new toys?

They got a bunch of toys for their first birthday at their party yesterday and I am not looking forward to the task of washing them all before they play. The plan was to open one or two every few days and wash those and let them at it so I don't have to do it all at once. But then I was thinking that I would check with you guys to see when you don't need to worry about it anymore. Thanks.

Ummm, I've NEVER washed toys before they play with them. I mean, when they were babies (like under a year), it came from a yard sale or something and was going straight into their mouth, then I'd wipe it off with a wipe or whatever I had handy. Otherwise I came out of the package and into their hands. Don't know if that makes you feel any better or not! My kiddos have all had your typical colds and things but nothing out of the ordinary so I guess it didn't hurt them!

same here. We have never washed them out of the box. Yard sale toys get wiped down with the clorox wipes.

Yeah, I also never washed them either unless they were second hand.

I agree with pp, I never washed any toys. It's hard enough to make them wait while you try to take them out of the box, which these days seems like quite the ordeal. How many different wires are really needed to secure a toy in it's box?

ditto. I always washed anything that was second hand, but the new stuff was a free for all.

I do like the Clorox Hard Surface Spray for quick toy cleaning without investing my entire evening. I usually throw what I can in the dishwasher/washing machine. Those that I can't get lined up on the coffee table after bed time for a quick spray down. You don't even have to wipe it off...it air dries and is ready to roll come morning.

I did it until they were about 3. It's totally a personal choice though. :)

Mine are 28 months and I still do it. Don't know where they've been before they hit the stores or what happens to them in the stores -- who knows they haven't sprayed around them with pest control or something else just as bad. I know I'm in the minotrity though. Probably will through their next birthday.
