When do you stop introducing just one new food at a time?

I'm sure it's too early for this but today we were out to lunch and Natalie was sitting on my lap. She was trying with all her might to grab handfuls off of my plate. I gave her little bites of mushroom, tomatoes and bread - she so excited. I also gave her small pieces of noodle but those she mostly sucked on & spit back out. I don't remember this being a big deal with my older DD but for some reason I am so unsure of what to feed these two! In justthe last week or so it seems that both of them are "done" with being spoonfed and only want "real" foods. Help!

Way to go, Natalie!! I would definitely "take their lead". It sounds like they are telling you that they are ready to try new things. My ped. said we should be adding new table finger foods by 9mos. I would introduce at least one new "table finger food" with each of their meals. Just go by trial and error as to what they like. BTW- for some strange reason mine have never and still don't like pasta and spit it out immediately...but they love steak (of course cup up into tiny pieces) ;) You might want to start out by trying fruits and veggies...small cut up pieces of bananas, cooked carrots & green beans and just kinda go from there. I didn't switch mine over to completely table food all at once. I did it by gradually introducing new finger foods with each meal but still topping them off with baby food. Have fun and get ready for some messes!!!

Wow! That's great! You're on your way to not having to buy or make special baby food!

If they've already tried a significant number of foods without an allergic reaction and if you don't have a history of food allergy in your family, I wouldn't worry too much about making sure each ingredient has been tried for 3 days before a new one is introduced. I would really keep my eyes open, though, when a new food is tried that is highly allergenic. Examples of this are wheat, egg white, peanuts/tree nuts, tomato, shellfish, and citrus fruits. You might want to stagger when these are tried for the first time.

I agree, let her have it!! That's great! Just watch out for the high allergy foods.

We stopped at about 8 months. We skip the highly allergenic foods and just give them tastes of everything.

    I agree!

Mine showed no signs of allergies to anything... so around that time, I quit introducing one by one, and they LOVED that.

My girls will love you guys!! ;) They both will hardly eat anything off the spoon anymore, but get so excited whenever they see real food. I have been real hestitant but you have inspired me. Tonight Hannah was frantically trying to grab my water bottle so I let her drink out of it, of course water was all over me & her both - but I think she did manage to drink some too! I feel like I've been holding them back, I'll be a little bravwr now. They both get so excited - it's adorable :D

Even though mine haven't shown any food allergies, we didn't change until 12 months. Up to that point, if I did a new food, I waited a few days before I did another one. Since I generally had leftovers, I could give the same thing in small quantities over several days. Case in point - lima beans. They only ate like 3 at a time, so I could see for several days if they had a reaction. Now, lasagna was a whole different animal. I gave them a taste and they went NUTS! There were many things that I'm sure they hadn't had yet, so I covered lots of new things at once with that one. :)
