Just wondering at what age do you have to stop cutting grapes, berries, and other foods? My girls have been doing well on them whole, and they get very upset when I cut things. When did you fill comfortable to give foods without cutting them?

I still cut grapes. I think they can be slippery and I think it would be easy for them to choke on them.

Unless it's really big, I don't cut it anymore....I probably stopped around 18 mos.

I haven't cut grapes for a while -- probably almost a year now -- 21 months? I still cut lots of other food, mostly for Melissa who likes small bits, Jade likes "BIG." We've never/rarely had any gagging episodes here, so I feel pretty confident.

We don't really cut too much stuff anymore. I do cut strawberries if they are the BIG ones. I still cut chicken nuggets too b/c usually they are TOO hungry to eat them whole without them being cooled off a bit. But, for the most part, they eat the stuff whole.

Probably about the age yours are at now. Maybe a month or two sooner depending on the food. Grapes I don't cut up though. If they have a lot of teeth, they know how to use them at this point. Let them practice but watch them.

Depends on the food and how well they do. If they're adamant about the grapes, give it a shot and just keep an eye on them for a while. :D

I'm going to keep cutting up grapes until they're 3 (at least that's what I think now), since they are listed as one of the most common choking foods. I still cut really large blueberries in half, too. I do cut up lots of other things (pizza, strawberries, etc.) but that's so they can pick them up more easily, not really for fear of choking.

We had stopped cutting the grapes around 22 months..then at the twins bday party my aunt noticed my dh giving my ds a whole grape..and she went ballistic... She's an anesthesiologist..with many years experience in the ER both as a doctor and previously as a nurse.... so we went back to cutting them..not b/c I'm afraid of them choking, but b/c I know I'll never hear the end of it if they do! :umm:

Same here. I still cut up most fruits b/c of the slippery factor.
