Honestly, there is no way my girls are ready to start to pee in the potty. They can barely walk. But I have a "friend" (we'll call her that for lack of a better word) that is already putting her daughter on the potty and she is only 14 months old! Am I the only one that thinks this is strange. My girls won't sit still long enough for a 10 sec time out, much less sit on a potty. Just wondering if I am already behind?

My Mom says that I was potty trained at 1 yr old! I don't know how she did it! I didn't start with my oldest until he was almost 2 1/2. The twins show interest in the potty now, and will sit on it an pee some, but I don't really think they are totally ready yet. We continue to take them throughout the day just to get them used to the idea, but I probably won't start training hard until around Christmas. Also, my oldest didn't poo on the potty until he was probably 3 1/2! All kids are different! You just have to watch for signs of readiness and interest in it.

Mine were showing signs of interest at that age but it was more like letting them try something they were curious about than actually expecting anything. I hoped to avoid issues of fear with using the big potty by exposing them at an age when they were curious and not yet fearful. I only put them on when they indicated interest and took them off as soon as they wanted down. Once in a while they would actually pee but it wasn't consistent. I cannot say if this is the reason or not but they'll climb onto any big potty (even in a public restroom) and use it... no portable seat required! B)

We didn't start the more serious potty training until they could use the potty without much assistance -- which means they can remove their clothes, get on and off themselves, and they go with intent.

You know, I was wondering the same thing...we got a chair this weekend at Target because the girls just loved it. We figured what the heck, we'll try it.

That night when we got ready for the bath, we took everyone's diaper off and put them on the potty...they sat there like it was something they did every day. We let them hang out for about 5 minutes or so and of course, nothing happened so we put them in the tub. No sooner had DH put Rachel in the tub and reached back for Emily had Rachel pooped in the tub.

I think they understand what they need to do and will lay down on the carpet and put their feet up in the air if they want their diapers changed (it's too funny to see...) now, so I'm wondering if it's worth a shot. I just don't know how their daycare does it and I do want to sort of stay along their lines to things stay consistent and on track.
