When do you start reducing formula?

    Hi Ladies,
My twin boys are six months and we have started solids--cereal, squash, carrot, etc. When did you start reducing the amt. of formula? I am having a tough time just fitting in solid feeds, as I am trying not to give too much with their bottles--afraid they will spit up more. But, if I give my 32 oz. of formula a day via bottle, how will they increase their appetite for solids?
Any advice would be appreciated in terms of how you handled this transition. Thanks, Naomi

Formula should still be their primary source of nutrition til at least ~9 mo. Solids are just for practice. I found that my babies' appetite for "real food" has just increased naturally on its own. They still nurse as much as ever, but they pack in more and more solid food too. At 7.5 mo they were barely picking away at 1 meal/day, now they take 4 meals!

Just follow your babies' lead. They'll get into big people food in their own sweet time. :)

At that age and with solids, they may take more during a feeding, so you don't reduce the overall intake, but you may be able to "drop a bottle."

How many times a day are you feeding? At 6 mo I droped from 6 to 5 nursing sessions. feed 7, 9, 11, 3, and 7. I feed solids at 12 and 5.

If you "drop a bottle" should you increase the amount in each bottle to even things out a little?? Mine take 8 oz bottles...so....

How many bottles a day are you giving? I believe babies that age need 24-30 ounces a day...

Well I was doing 3 8oz bottles, however I posted a few days ago about how they were eating and was encouraged to drop a cereal feedin g and replace with a bottle, so now 4....which would be 32.
