I've heard many different opinions, some say as soon as you start solids, some say not until almost a year.. so I'm wondering when did you or are you going start giving your twins water and how much?

Sorry to hijack your post, but maybe when people are answering about water, they can give me a clue about juice as well.

My pedi said that I could give mine a couple ounces per day. He recommended that I wait until 6 months for juice. By the way, mine are 4 months old.

Babies do not need water until after they are a year old. It can mess with their levels of sodium and stuff. (Sorry, I don't remember the right terminology).

My Pedi said that my boys should get 2 oz of tap water a day to get their flouride.

I gave mine a sippy of water with lunch starting at about 7 months, it was more to get them used to a sippy than anything else.

As for juice, mine didn't have any until they were off the bottle. When the boys were born, a friend, whose 4th is 2 weeks younger than my boys, advised me not go give juice until they would drink milk from a sippy. Since milk is thicker than juice, they have to work harder to get it--better get then used to that before they get juice, which is easier to drink, and sweeter.

My babies get water with their formula, so I never thought to give them additional water. But I have given them water when they are sick to help keep them hydrated and help their stuffy noses. Sometimes I give them a little water in a bottle after feeding solids to help wash it down. They don't drink much of it, but they have fun tasting it and practicing drinking it from the bottle on their own.

Around 2 months my ped said they could have an ounce here and there if I wanted, but they certainly don't need it (mine are breastfed). At six months he told me to offer it in a sippy with meals to get them used to drinking from a sippy. They never drink it though, just play with the cups. Sometimes at night my husband would offer a little water to see if that would calm them.

Juice we only give when they are constipated. I first gave it around 4 months, diluted half with water.

I've always introduced water in their sippy cups when giving them food. It's mostly to get them used to the cup, but that way they get maybe an ounce a day. And I introduce food around 5 months.

I dont know about exactally when, but my old doc told me to ONLY introduce juice or water in a sippy... bottles for nothing besides milk. I think we did at around 7mnth. it helps break the bottle habit. I did put juice in a bottle when DD was sick and needed rehydrated and only had the energy for her bottle.

I've given the girls water since they were about 4 months, I just remember it was a very, very hot day once when they were that age so I gave them a drink, they actually wanted it and drank it.

I have given my girls a littlw water sence they were born I think they were a week when I started a sipp here and there but now C get water about 2 oz offen as for she gets gas alot and her tummy hurts and I am against that gas drops and my gramma said to put a pepperment disk in the 2 oz water just to turn the water pink then remove it and give it to a baby with a upset tummy it works every time like a charm so thats the only time she gets water.
