When do you "LOSE" the sippy cups?

Well, my twins just turned 2 and they are still using sippy cups for the most part. Mikayla can drink nicely out of a regular cup, but I get so lazy and I just want everything to stay clean that I keep giving her sippy cups. Michael can drink out of a regular cup too, but is a bit more messy.

When did you stop using sippy cups?

When do you think society begins to "look down" on children using sippy cups? For example, when I had a 3 year old in my preschool class, and he was using a sippy cup at snack time, I "looked down" upon that. So when does it become "taboo" to drink from a sippy?

E & S were about 2.5 years old when we put them on regular cups full time.

I have no idea when society begins to look down on it. I never cared!

Well we turn 3 in a couple weeks and they're still using them, although they do use regular cups half the time too. I've just been lazy and haven't switched them completely over. I know it's not a huge job, but it is a messy one. It's my goal for this month (Dec) do phase out the sippy.

I don't really worry about what anyone thinks. I just want them to be able to drink out of a regular cup so I don't have to lug around their sippies everywhere we go. :winking0009:

Now, if anyone has any TIPS on how to help them not spill, I'd love to hear those! LOL

Not long after 2 we moved to using regular cups at home. At three, I still usually bring sippy cups along if we are all eating in a restaurant. (At a restaurant, we often don't fit up to the table as well, there might be limited space and lots of distractions, so it's just easier not to risk spills. But, we can manage without the cups if we need to.

I haven't attempted either they won't even eat with a fork or spoon they throw it right on the floor. I honestly never have "looked down" on a 3,4,5 yr. old with a sippy cup ever...I think they are easy and convient for when you are out and about...a bottle though I have "looked down" on when a child is say 3 and still toting a bottle around.

Mine just turned 2 and we're still using them with no plans to stop. They do go through phases where they want a regular cup, but I only allow it at mealtimes, whereas with the sippies, they can have them before bed, and drink from them anywhere in the house as long as they are sitting donwn. It's going to be a pretty major change in their bedtime routine when we give up the sippies (since right now they drink milk while having their bedtime stories), so I'm nervous about it.

I never thought about it, but mine still use sippy cups because I don't want to clean a lot. However, at dinner I am giving them a regular cup to drink from.

My DD just turned three, so she probably gave up the sippy cup a little before that. She could drink out of a regular cup long before that, but lacked the maturity to remember to put her cup away after she was done. If she forgot, her brothers would get a hold of it and I'd have a mess. Shortly before she turned three she would do a really good job of putting her cup on the counter when she was done and not wanting to carry it all around the house. I'm assuming my boys won't use a sippy cup as long as she did since they won't have a younger sibling to worry about. As soon as they can master the cup with few messes, they'll be done. I really wouldn't worry what others think. As I get older (and wiser??!) I'm finding that the people that tend to make judgements are the ones that haven't been there and done that! ;) Would you agree?

Mine both can drink out of regular cups, but I only allow them to have open cups in the kitchen at the table or bar. They use sippies daily, for around the house etc. I keep full ones in the fridge where they can access them easily. I have been giving them regular cups when we all sit down together for meals.
I figure as long as they will allow it, I will give them the sippies....

I give sippy cups of milk and a nutrigrain bar to the guys for breakfast and gate them into the living room so I can take a shower for work and get my DD ready for school. The only other times they get sippy cups is at bedtime - they each get a sippy cup of water for the night hours. I'll need to stop that when I start seriously potty training them.

It was only a couple of months ago that my DD stopped the sippy cup and nutrigrain bar breakfast. Now she eats a pop tart and has a glass of milk at the kitchen table while I run around to get ready.
