I had previously asked the dr in the 4th month check up about giving H20 to the babies, he said they
didn't really need it because they got a lot of water in the formula. But now at 6 months and starting solids,
I'm just wondering how would I know if they are thirsty....or after going outsdie for walks (live in FL and it is getting warmer)

I started water when I started sippy cups. I always gave them a sippy with water with their solids.

I wouldn't give them much until they get a sippy cup. The only time my guys got water before 7 months was when they had diarrhea and I was worried about dehydration, and when they were constipated, which happens quite a bit now that they have started solids.

I started giving water to my son about the same time as starting solids. I would take weather into consideration as well.

We started in sippies around 9 months, but I don't think they've actually drunk much of it yet!

We started it when we started sippies, at 6 months old. They have grown to really like it.

I offered it in sippy cups once in a while with meals, but they never really drank it. They are just starting to understand how to use the sippy cups, but now we give them milk at meals. So my kids never really get water. They are still on formula and getting whole milk. I really don't want them to fill up on water because they need the extra calories.

We started at 6 months in their sippy cups. They know that they only thing they get in a bottle is BM and water in their sippys. They love their water and get it with all of their meals and snacks.

we started water with solids as well - i usually give them a sip or two while i hold them in my laps (it can help with constipation - which thankfully hasn't been a problem here yet). then i put the lids on their sippy cups & let them play with them on the floor on their own. i figure it's not a big deal because they don't get much at all - getting too much water can interfere with their formula/breast milk intake both of which have plenty of water in them already.
