When do you find out teachers for next year?

I'm just wondering when you find out who your childrens teachers are for the following year. My girls find out on the last day of school, it's on their report cards. My niece and nephew who live in the next county over don't find out their teachers until it's closer to when school starts. My school also doesn't do a list of school supplies atleast not yet in kindgerarten and first grade.

I thought I would do this as a poll just to make it easier and quicker. This is my very first poll so I don't know if I did it right. I made it multiple choice too just incase you have kids in different schools and they do things differently.

 

In elementary and middle school, we found out usually a day or two before school started in the fall who the boys' teachers would be for the year.

 

We used to find out about a week before school started, but this year we found out on their last report card.

 

I've been told that we'll find out in writing the week before school starts who their teacher is. We're in a unique situation, though, so we already know. The district will have all the elementary schools open next year after building and remodeling. Our school has been together with another one and they are dividing back out. They had to divide out the teachers also. One of the K teachers told me that our school got assigned one K teacher. So, one morning and one afternoon section. I wanted the kids together anyway, but now I'm finding out that the only way we could have separated was to put one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

But in the future, I think that we'll find out the week before school.

School starts Sept. 2nd, and we will find out via Powerschool on August 24th. I am guessing that they will also send out hard copies on the 24th.

 

We find out at registration, one week before school starts. Technically, though, I already know who the kids will have -- just not who's assigned to which teacher. There are three 2nd grade teachers, and I requested in writing not to be assigned a certain teacher. The other two teachers team-teach, like H&B's teachers did this year, so they assign twins to those classrooms, so I'm pretty much guaranteed now to get those two teachers. Plus, Brady's teacher asked a lot of questions of me at the end of the year regarding H&B's personalities to determine which teacher would be the best fit for each of them, and I let her know the one I didn't want as well, and she completely understood.

 

For state funded preschool--we found out last week (our requested teacher, but not our requested time -pm instead of am).

In the district I worked in the schools posted the week before school started. Lots of teachers moved buildings, retired, left the district, maternity leave, changed grades,etc......contractually the teachers had until June 30th to decide/request a different placement/retire for the following school year. Also with student population changes sometimes teachers were shifted around after registration.

I am surprised they post them this early!!

I know the local districts are struggling--lots of move-outs, grade level changes due to the economy.


Supply lists go out in the mail for grades go out a few weeks prior to school. Individual lists are often sent by teachers after the class list is formed.

At the school my DD goes to the class lists are posted on the front doors on Aug. 10 and school starts the 24th of Aug. It's different for each school in our county, it's up to the principal. My nephew, who goes to a school 5 miles away, found out on the last day of school who his teacher was for the next school year. I wish it was the same all through our county.

 

As much as I would love to know who the boys' teachers are now, having worked in schools, it really can backfire when they give out teachers at the beginning of summer. There are many reasons that schools would have to make changes over the summer, like, a teacher moving away, or simply too many children slated for the same class moving away over the summer. I know that if my boys knew who their teacher was, but then had it changed the first day of school for any reason, it could be really hard for them. I think it is much easier on the schools to wait until before school starts to let you know.

Our school has class lists posted outside the building 2 days before the classes start in August. This year is different for us as Ethan and Isaac were in multi-age classroom ( looping 2-3 grade level) and will have the same teacher next year . The school where we were before moving to IN had a "fly-up" day at the end of the school year, where the kids found out their class assignment for the next year and went to meet their next year's teacher.

 

On the day they go back to school isn't that crazy, I would like the girls to have been introduced before hand. Last year in one of the classes they hadn't even hired the teacher yet and had a temporary teacher for a couple of weeks, I guess they don't get some of the numbers until the last minute. It feels very disorganised to me.

 

We find out 2-3 days before school starts

 

I will get their class assignments about two weeks before school starts. This past year for K, I got the assignments and less than a week before school started the school called to see if they could put them in AM instead of PM. I told the school that they needed to check with the YMCA to see if there was still room for Connor & Maddie to go in the afternoon instead of the morning. Plus they ended up changing Maddie's teacher who I didn't get to meet until after school started because at the Open House 3 days before school started they were still in the hiring process for her.

 

My children's new teachers names are usually on their report cards.

 

Jacob and Nathan found out yesterday on their final report cards. They do this until I think entering 6th grade then they don't find out until just before school starts.

 

We get a letter in the mail about 3 wks. after school is out. We just got ours last Saturday. Which teacher they got is a big topic of conversation when we run into other parents over the summer. Cassie already knows that one of her friends from Girl Scouts is in her class and Zach knows that one of the boys from his Cub Scout den is in his class.

 

Kindergarten will find out a little earlier but 1-5 grades will find out Monday Aug 31 after 4pm (when the office staff goes home) and school starts Sept 1.

 

We got the class room assigned numbers on the last report card, but not the teacher's names, directly.
Our neighbor works there though, and told us who M&T will have. They are our oldest, so it is the first time through for us, so even with the names, it doesn't mean much yet. But on the plus side, our neighbor really likes the teachers they are assigned to, and says wonderful things about them.
