When do they stop pulling EVERYTHING off the shelves?

When did your kids stop "cleaning" out your shelves/anything they could reach?

I am trying to decide if I need to permanantly change the way some of our less frequently visited rooms are set up, or just ride it out for a little while longer.

I was thinking about using some tension rods as a temporary fix for our bookcases to keep books in place, but not accessible to destructive, little hands. If this doesn't work, I think i'm going to have to say good bye to my beloved books until the kids are older. :(

Change the set up to the rooms. My boys were emptying the book shelves constantly until at least 2.5. You've got a ways to go. ;)

Great question! I actually cleared out everything at their level in the main living areas when they were about 6 mos. old. I guess I will do the same upstairs (well, someday, when we get a gate up and actually let them roam!)

I agree, change the way you have things set up. Our kids are 28 months and they still pull anything that they can reach.

We're still pulling everything down now, with no end in sight. Actually hearing 2.5 from PP gives me some hope, LOL!

My kids still want to touch and pull everything off shelves at 2 and 1/2 yrs old. BUT, there is one bookcase that I have consistently taught them not to touch. They have not pulled off anything in it since they were about 2 years old, even though it's totally within their reach and is in the middle of our living room. But it might just be easier to store the books away for a while, rather than repeating "Don't touch that!" 500 times a day for the next 6 months.

My girlfriend and I were just talking about this. She has 2 older girls (6 and 4yrs). She never had to childproof or move anything!! They never had any interest. Well along comes their 3rd child...a little boy. He's now 15mons and into EVERYTHING. All the childproofing is new to her. I had warned her and she said it's amazing the difference with a boy.

Our boys were typical "curious georges". They just couldn't help themselves but pull things off shelves, etc from 15-22mons. Things slowly got better after 2yrs. Totally baby "de-proofing" started to majorly happen around 2.5yrs. Now at almost 3.5rs, BIG difference. But they still have their moments. The DVD player wasn't working and Ben confessed that he hid a toy in it. Boys will be boys! :D

I think my oldest was about 2, maybe 2.5. I cannot wait until I can put my photos back down. They are piled on the top of my shelves.

    Edited to add.

Ty was older because he didn't start walking till he was 2.

Oh man.....I was hoping mine would pass this soon. Looks like we have a ways to go though. They are only 16mos.
