When do they start pulling the blankets over themselves at night?

The other night I was thinking, while putting the girls to bed, about them getting cold during the night. Sometimes they're in footy pj's other nights we put them in sleep dresses. I'm not too worried about them when they're hot, but what happens when they're too cold :( What age did yours know to pull the blankets over them during the night when they got cold? Do I have a while to continue worrying about this?

That's why we use sleep sacks at night... Mine are nowhere near ready to do it.

    Funny you mentioned that!
It was HOT this weekend & they were sweating then last night I left their window open a little bit & of course it rained and got cold!
When I got up this morning I was sooo worried they would be cold (they weren't) and was wondering the same thing about pulling up blankets?!

Good question, I don't have the answer. I just went in their room because Jake was screaming again and I thought to myself "I wonder if they are hot" since I put them in long sleeve pj's and it read something like 78 in their room. I just changed them into a onsie and it's now quiet. You have no idea how I can't wait until they can tell me these things.

But later I know it will get cold and I'll shut their window, but I know I'd get cold just sleeping in a shirt with no pants. :D They also curl up around their blanket so if I go in to check on them, I have to unwrap the blanket from underneath them and risk waking them.

It has only been in the last few months they can cover themselves up. FINALLY!!!!!!!!
    It was a long road....

This is a great question, mine like to hug blankets to go to sleep. I just hope the sleep sacks keep them comfortable for now!

Mine hug them or built nests with them but they don't cover themselves up yet.

My older one didn't do it until she was 2.5 or 3. Definitely not until well after she was in a regular bed with a sheet and blanket...

Mine are just starting to do this at two. But it's not consistent and sometimes I'm awakened by Cricket yelling for help fixing her blanket. I've noticed now that if I cover them up before I go to bed, the blankets are still on when they wake up.

Mine sometimes cover themselves, and other times don't. So we are still working on it around here.

We are still working on it here too ... but Hailey won't even let me put a blanket in her crib. She will yell "NO BLANKET!" and toss it out ... so, oh well for her. Jake likes it, and he will say "Need help getting cozy" which means I need to wrap him in his blanket ... then he lays there for a minute and smiles, and throws it off! oh well ... they'll figure it out!

I've noticed lately they'll build little 'nests' or cuddle with their blankets, just not pull them over. Seems like I'll be waiting a while before I can stop worrying about this. Also, they've recently taken a liking to sleeping with their butts in the air

Still footed sleepers or socks when it's cold at our house. They just don't have the ability to pull covers over their bodies in an organized fashion. They can grab them and bunch them up and get them over their heads, but not over their feet!

I have one who still doesn't do it!
I'm thinking though of going in at night and saying out loud, Are you cold? Hear, pull up the blanket. To see if I can condition her that way.

But then neither does DH. Were we live the temp drops significantly overnight pretty much all year. Even more so now that the rainy season has started. I wake up and find DH huddled in the fetal position shivering, but still alseep. Sometimes he sort of half wakes up and says cold cold cold until I reach down and get the blanket and cover him up.
