when do they start playing with legos & play dough?

DH is out of town this week (left last Fri) and we're all starting to get a little stir crazy. Weather's been icky & rainy, so we're mostly in the house. I think we might head into town this afternoon though & find something new to play with while we're stuck inside.

I don't have any legos, but I've seen those giant ones & wondered what age do they start playing with those? We've been stacking & knocking over blocks for a few weeks now & they just love that. I don't know if the legos would be fun, or just frustration.

Also, play dough? I kinda thought if I let them play with it now they might try eating it. What's the typical age for that?

    thanks!!!

My girls love Mega Blocks, it's Liberty's favorite toy right now. I also tried play dough (homemade) a couple months ago and they really didn't play with it, but I've been thinking about trying it again. HTH

My girls have had two little sets of mega blocks since they were 1. They love them and have just started collecting all the same peices and stacking them up. I have not done play doh with them yet. I don't want to deal with them mess and the eating of the play doh yet.

Our girls love Mega Blocks too, but I think that PlayDoh would go right into their mouths so I am going to wait on that for a few months.

Mine like the Duplo blocks. They are not as big as mega blocks, yet they are not as small as regular legos. They love to make toweres out of those. As for playdough, they would like to play with older DS's but they stick it in their noses and try to eat it. They love to color. Crayola make theses new mega colors (I think they are called Big Ones) that are bigger than the large colors. Just have your Mr. Clean Eraser handy in case you step away and they decide to color on the walls, table or floor like mine did!

This thread prompted me to get the play dough back out. My girl had a blast! I sat down next to their little table and played with them. They didn't eat it this time, hopefully they're past that. :) I showed them how to push their hand down on it and make hand prints, I think that was their favorite part. Your children might have fun with it, the worst that could happen is they make a mess or eat some of it. :)

I got them the big legos (mega blocks) around the age of your kiddos, they love them! No playdoh yet, mostly because I don't want to deal with the mess. ;)

There are lots of edible playdough recipes on the web (google it) if you're worried about eating it. Mine can't help themselves, they still put EVERYTHING in their mouth. I've been using pudding as finger paint on their high chair tray, followed by a just-for-fun bath for desperate indoor days.
