When do they start insisting on dressing themselves?

For the life of me and maybe because my older DS was less than independent, I don't remember what age toddlers decide they need to dress themselves. Mine already put on shoes by themselves but haven't started insisting on pants/shirts. The shoes made me wonder if it was coming soon or if I have some time.

My boys are almost four...and they don't insist on dressing themselves! Maybe it's a boy thing, I don't know. I have them dress themselves, provided we are not in a rush or anything.... LOL! So they dress themselves, but if I come over to help, or to move things along, they are pretty good about it. Anthony sometimes doesn't want any help getting undressed.

Mine have gone through phases of it starting around age 2, but it rarely lasts long. They're almost 6 and they still want us to dress them. We do it as long as they ask nicely and we're not in the middle of making breakfast or something -- I figure in a few years, they won't want us touching them at all!

There was a major "I do it myseff!" phase around the early toddler years, but I remember it being more about shoes, getting into the carseat (oh what a nightmare), and other logistical things that nearly always interfered with us getting anywhere on time!

Ahh yes, the carseat. They are starting to try and work the buckles (not even close). I forgot about that battle also. Thanks for the reminder!

My girls will randomly insist on doing things themselves - it's a little frustrating that they aren't consistent with it. I mean, if I knew they always wanted to do it themselves, I could plan the extra time, but at least half the time they throw a fit if I don't help them. :pardon:

Mine started at late 2 but they are really hardcore about it now. My DS will let me help him through some of the process but my DD wants no help.
