When do they start eating every 3-4 hrs?

I've heard from many sources that babies usually start eating every 3-4 hrs during the daytime. My girls are 9.5 wks old now, they weigh in at 12 lbs 4 oz and 13 lbs and are eating 4.5 oz every 1.5-2 hrs [when they are awake]!! There's a guy at DH's work who has a baby that is only 2 wks older than ours and says his eats 3 oz about every 4 hrs. And he's about to cut down on the amount during the feedings cause he's getting chubby now. :umm:

I have tall/skinny girls [they're already fitting in some 6-9 month clothing, but still wear 3 monthers - for now]. Could it be that they're going through yet another growth spurt?!

I've also heard that they grow wide, then tall, then wide, then tall.. So I'm wondering if they're entering the length growth spurt right about now.

I'd like the stretch the feedings, but sometimes they get hungry.. [really fussy and the only thing that calms them is the bottle] around the one hour mark. Sorry, but I don't want to be feeding 4.5 oz EVERY hr!! I make them wait at least 1.5 hrs.

On the other hand, they've been sleeping very well at night time. We do bath, bottle, and bed [BBB] and they [often] put themselves to sleep w/o a paci. There's been 2 nights [since last week] that Alyssa's slept for an 8 hr stretch!! So AWESOME. But usually now they only wake up 2 times each [as opposed to 3-4 times each]. So now I'm looking at 3-4 bottles in the morning instead of 6-8 bottles :bump:

Shoot I wish I could get to four hours. The boys at 6 months eat every 3 hours...and by 2 1/2 they are usually getting fussy, by 3 crying and going it for a bottle.

My doctor told me to feed my babies as much as they wanted. Maybe you could try feeding more at each feeding and then maybe they would eat less.
My babies go about every 4 hours and eat 7 oz at each feeding (well most feedings)

Hopefully for you it's a growth spurt!!!

Mine were put on a 3 hour schedule at the hospital, and we switched them to 3.5/4 hours the last couple weeks, as they started refusing to eat more often.

mine eat every 4 hours about 5 oz each feed. They eat every 5 hours at night. Although sometimes during the day, they will get hungry and have only a 3 hour stretch. I think ds is going through a spurt now too, b/c he is wanting to eat more frequently.

Do you do the eat/play/sleep thing? I find that unless I get my guys to sleep, they'll eat every 2 hrs (and won't nap well  ). But, if I put them down about 75-90 minutes after they started eating, they'll generally go 3 hrs (or more).

My girls are 4.5 months (3 months adjusted) and have just gotten into a routine to eat about every 3-4 hours. I don't keep a set schedule, but we do the eat/play/sleep thing. They drink anywhere between 3-6 oz. per feeding. They have slept through then entire night several times in recent weeks, but they usually get up once.

There was a period between 2-3months where they would often eat every 2 hours and up to 4 oz. at a time. I just feed them what they want, when they want it...I just to encourage them to eat all they want at once--they were "snacking" at one point, but they moved on from that on their own.

I think things will fall into place at some point...

I do the play/activity time about two times a day [until they get fussy/bored]. I noticed that when they're awake they'll want to eat every 1.5 - 2 hrs, but if they're sleeping they'll go from 2 - 4.5 hrs during the day. We just upped the bottle size from 4 oz to 4.5 last week. [they've been eating 4 oz since they were two weeks old!]. Maybe I'll just make 5 oz bottles and see where they go with it. Also, I've been a little scared to give Alyssa too much cause of her Acid Reflux. She's on medication now, but I guess she'll only has much as she wants to, right?

I have to really get one of my twins down for a nap. I know he's tired but will. not. go. down. But, getting them to nap between each time has really made a difference.
