When did you start getting your cervix checked? I am having a relatively uncomplicated pregnancy. No signs of fetal distress or anything. I was just wondering when your OB started checking you if you have an uncomplicated pregnancy. I am gonig every two weeks now.

Actually I really want to know when I should start worrying about grooming habits. :) Thanks for any help/tips/suggestions you have to offer.

I am going to ask at my next appt. just wanted to know if I need to groom beforehand or if I can make it another week without having to worry about that.

I think it was around 25 weeks that they started seeing me every two weeks. As soon as that happened they started doing a speculum exam at every visit. They would listen to heartbeats, check urine, measure fundal height and check my cervix. My ob office doesn't do u/s so I would go to the peri every two to three weeks.

I'm 16 weeks and I have been going every two weeks from the beginning - starting at 8 weeks. He checks my cervix and does an u/s every time.

I've had my cervical length checked by u/s since about 16 to 18 weeks, and it was checked every two weeks from then. It's good to at least get a 'baseline' length early on to know what is normal for you. As far as manual checks, I had my first one at my last appointment at 35 wks. 3 days. I don't think my peri was even going to check but he decided he might as well since they were checking me for GB Strep as well. Oh, and as far as grooming habits, once you get pretty far along you probably won't be able to reach down very far anyway. I was joking with the nurse about my hairy legs yesterday. :rotflmbo: Maybe your DH can help when you reach that point, but it's really not a big deal.

    I was checked by vaginal u/s at 21, 24, 27, 28, 30, and 32 weeks. They did a manual check at 33 and 37 weeks.

I was checked by ultrasound from 24 weeks. Just had the first manual check last week at 34 weeks, and now having it weekly. Good luck with the grooming! If you come up with a good method, let us know! :icon_biggrin:

I've had my cervix checked every 2 weeks since 16 weeks by my peri. It's a good thing they started early because I thinned out and needed a cerclage at 18 weeks.

Everyone's picking on me about grooming! I haven't been able to do that for a while! DH helps! I thought I could do it myself by placing a mirror at the right angle..... well I got DH in on it and he's been very helpful. Since I work with the nurses that will be delivering me.... and know most of the Docs personally.... I need to make sure that I'm groomed!!! :) Otherwise, I wouldn't care.

Second trimester for me, (16 weeks) then every 3 weeks had they not found an issue. But it was pretty much weekly for me because they did find an issue.

She's been seeing my to check my cervix every two weeks for a while - several months at least. Just this past Fri (at 33 weeks) she said I'm to come in every week.

    I had a u/s at every appt and a big measurment u/s once a month. I didn't get a manual check until 35 weeks.

I guess I better go ahead and get the grooming taken care of before the appt. It sounds like everyone is different. I would prefer that they check me because peoples comments can make you worry too much sometimes. Someone told me I'm carrying too low, someone else said I dropped. You know they think that they are being helpful, but really all it's doing is putting doubts in your head.

Wow, I'm almost 35 weeks and my OB has not checked my cervix since my first visit when I suspected I was pregnant! I have had a couple Level II ultrasounds at the peri where they checked it, twice in the past 5 weeks or so, and everything is fine. The whole pregnancy has been pretty uneventful, as with my first daughter, so maybe that's why. He has told me he was going to check it 2 times and then didn't do it. He's said he's going to do it at my next appointment, though, so we'll see. He's kinda vague that way, I've had several visits where he really didn't do much, just listened to heartbeats, asked me a couple questions, and tell me to take it easy, then he breezes out of the room. But that's another post...

Every 2 weeks from 22 weeks on, by Ultrasound only. My dr. hasn't done a manual check as of yet, and I don't think he will until 36 weeks, and if they are both vertex.

I went in at 10 weeks. will go back at 14. then every two weeks after that until 30 weeks when I will start going every week. Doc told me he will be checking my cervix every two weeks from 16-24 weeks to make sure I don't have an incompetent cervix and then after that just depends on what those checks showed.

My ob checked me at about 26w because of all the bh I had been having, otherwise it would have been later in February. He then checked me a few weeks later and I was 1cm and he put me on moderate br. Then 1 week later on March 1, 2006 I was getting even worse so he had me come in and I was now at 2cm. So I was hospitalized for 6 days and put on strict br until 3/27/06. Now my boys turned 1 on 4/6/07.

I have had a vagnial u/s at every single appt I have had since day one - basically, every 2-4 weeks depending on how far along I was. Early on, they did it b/c it gave them a much more accurate reading on my cervical length than a reg u/s. Later, they kept doing it as a means to ensure my cervix was holding strong.

Wow! It really is amazing at how different everyone is treated. I wish that OBs had a standard set of guidelines that they had to follow. I realize everyone is different, but I want him to check me. I so want to hear that I'm high and closed. That would at least give me some peace of mind until my next appointment. But I have to be honest, I feel kinda strange going in saying... can you check me please? I know I have to be an advocate for myself but I feel like I know too much and that's what makes me so paranoid about this pregnancy. Thanks again to everyone for your responses.

this makes sense.... I still don't know how people go to practices where they know or are connected in a personal/professional way to the doctors or nurses... Lots of women in my church go to this one ob/gyn guy...and he's an old family friend of ours.. and I could never in a million years have gone to him as an ob/gyn.... there is something comforting in the obscurity of being "just another" pregnant patient... especially after you have realized that there have been several dozen people in the course of your child bearing years that have seen some pretty detailed personal areas...and have even closely examined them... ugh... I'm so, so glad I know very few people in the medical field!!!

Anyway I've had 3 u/s already this pg...the transvaginal kind...and for two of them I had almost no notice...just gushing lots of blood and told to get in there ASAP... I even apologized to the u/s tech (thank God she is a woman!!) and she laughed and said it's never bothered her... guess they see all sorts and they don't make a big deal out of it one way or the other....made me feel better...at least I know (hopefully) that they don't get together around their noon meal laughing about the personal grooming habits (or lack thereof) of their patients! :fool:

I will have my first check this week at 37w. They don't do cervical checks here routinely - if they feel there is a reason to (ie concern of PTL) they will. If not, they think that the risks (irritating cervix, introducing infection etc) are greater than the benefits. They will do one this week because they would like me to go into labour now.
