I took my DD to the dentist when she was 1 so she would get used to her but my dentist told me 3 years old is a good time to bring them.

I think the recommendations vary by doctor and by state. Washington recommends they go right around their first birthday, but we're very near Idaho and there they don't recommend it until 3 years. I found them a dentist who said we can bring them in whenever we feel comfortable within the first three years, and that the first couple years are just a quick peek in the mouth.

My ped says between 2 and 3. She went just before she turned 3 and she went again yesterday. There is a similar thread on the 1-5 forum ...

Between age 2 and 3 they'll encourage you to take them to an appt with you in the hopes that seeing you getting your teeth examined and cleaned will make them comfortable enough to let them dentist look inside their mouth. At age 3 though, they want regular checkups to begin. Try to start developing a routine of brushing now. I began with the little oragel rubber thing you put on your finger and they were fairly cool with me rubbing the teeth and gums. You won't always be able to get them as good as you'd like. Don't sweat it. Eventually, you'll work up to doing a little tooth brush and the safe to swallow tooth paste and they may or may not let you brush but the simple fact of them chewing the tooth brush will suffice. And now, at the stage their at, they might go a few days without brushing. Not by our choice, but you just can't MAKE them do anything that they are bound and determined NOT to do. That's one of the many reasons why you want to limit their intake of sugar and stuff like that. Good luck to you.

I'm glad you posted this! I was wondering the same thing with my 1st DD. And, we just had our 15 month appt and I forgot to ask the pedi about it... classic preggo brain turned mommy brain!

Gosh, I didn't think to save on a year of dental coverage premiums, I just my 1st DD covered for everything! Gosh, I'm wasting money on the twins now... I'll have to change that with open enrollment.
