My babies nap from 9-10 and 1-3 every day, roughly. When do babies normally drop the morning nap and move to a longer afternoon nap? I am just thinking, it would be nice to have a larger chunk of time in the morning to do stuff and then have a break in the afternoon. Do they do this themselves or do I have any influence?

Ours did not go to one nap till 16 months. Some kids go even longer with 2 naps.

My older kids were a little over a year when they dropped that morning nap.

Mine dropped their morning nap between 16 & 17 months. I followed their lead. So, for a couple of months, they would either take one or two naps.

For us it was shortly before their first birthday. They were taking way too long to go down for their morning nap, so we just moved it back to one. It was a little hairy for a couple days and then worked nicely.

My boys did so on their own at 1 year. They were showing no sleepy signs in the morning so we made it one nap and just kept bumping it up later and later.

We are in the middle of starting to transition to only one nap. My girls used to nap in the morning around 9, but lately it's been 10 or 10:30, sometimes even later. So I think they're starting to get ready, but right now I don't think they'd be able to stay awake from 7 to noon. Hopefully soon, because I also think it would be nice to have the morning open to get out of the house without having to worry about naps.

Just after their first birthday. It stated to become very hard to get one of my boys to take an afternoon nap (I got 20 minutes if I was lucky and it usually involved a car ride). We just moved the morning nap back and dropped the afternoon nap. I loved it when they did this. It allowed us to get out and do things more. I know that others loved keeping two naps for a long time, but I found it much better when it was just one nap.

I let mine indicate when they were ready. It was around 18 months that they just didn't sleep when I put them down for their usual morning nap time. Then I kept moving back the time I did put them down so that it worked for us. (they are down for their nap around 12:15 now)
They will let you know when they no longer need that morning nap, but really like a PP said, enjoy it while it lasts!!

I'm going to be going back to work when they are 18 months. I *hope* that they are done with the morning nap since I hear that most daycare environments only allow an afternoon nap. Mine are kind of reversed from everybody. They really need that morning nap and I have a hard time getting them down for an afternoon nap. I try to keep them up in the morning, but around 9:30 they are just crying and fussy.

This is how mine are too. I am hoping they are down to one nap, or I can get them down to one, but the beginning of July, which they will almost be 17 months. If they are on 2 naps over the summer we will never be able to do anything and my oldest DD will not like that. Plus she will have swimming lessons for 2 weeks in the morning during their morning nap time.

My oldest DD was around 18-19 months when she went to one nap.
