I was just curious when it's appropriate to stop using number of months to describe your childs age? Once you do stop do you just for the whole year use that one number or do you use half as well? For example, when your child is 4, do you say they are 4 for the whole year or when they get to the half way mark, do you say 4 and a half? And when they are almost 5 do you say they are 4 but will be 5 next month? Just one of those silly curious questions that came to my mind.

I wondered the same thing when I told someone recently that they were one year, and my husband corrected me and said they were 13 months. We've actually since had discussions about whether to say they are one year or 13 months! Too much time on our hands apparently. :)

I think I stopped when they turned two. I will say 2 and a half, or almost 3 tho, to qualify their age, 'cause they aren't just 2! My mom, OTOH, will still refer to them in months, confusing everyone she talks to and causing massive head-math headaches as folks struggle to convert months to years. She's a funny lady!

I stopped doing months when they turn 2. I still do half years though.

We stopped using months when they were 2. We do use 1/2 and now that my boys are getting into math 1/4 and 3/4. Funny though, my boys refused to say they were 5 1/2 until the DAY that they turned 5 1/2--two days after Christmas :)

I stopped a little bit after they turned 2. Using months even confused me so I just started teling people 2 when asked. Now I say they are 2 1/2.

I pretty much stopped when they turned 2. From 2 to 2 1/2...I would just say that they were 2. Then I used 2 1/2. Now that we are 3 mos from being 3...I have found myself telling people they will be 3 in May when they ask how old they are. (Because they are so big...I don't say that they are just 2 anymore).

I think this is the way we'll end up doing it too.

We still use months but t two, it gets way too complicated. My son says he's like 8 1/2 from two weeks after his 8th birthday. I just say he's 8 until the month of his birthday then he's "almost 9."

I still do it, except that 23 months was "almost two" and 25 months was "just turned two." In another month or so, I'll probably say "two and a half," but for now I say 27 months, because neither "just turned two" nor "two and a half" seems accurate.

Around age 2, pretty much the same as the above. I still use months for things like at the doctor's, sometimes here on TS, or talking to other mom's when discussing development/milestones. But if a random person asks how old they are, I say 2 1/2.

Around 2 when it became more difficult for me to come up with the month calculation. I currently use "they just turned 3". Our kids are big and I feel like I always have to pinpoint their age because I think people expect them to behave like older kids because they tend to look older.

I find the month thing annoying. I stopped doing it when they were 2. So I just say they are 2 now, or almost 2.5. :)

I started after 18 months because it just felt funny saying 20 months, KWIM? I started saying 1 1/2 and soon - who knows when - I'll say they are almost 2.

I think is was when they were almost 2 years old. People would ask and I would just say "they are almost 2". Now I just say they are 2.

After 24 months I quit saying their age in months.

With my older kids I naturally progressed to saying they were "a year and a half" after 18 months. Then they became 2, 2.5, then it went to just years after that.

I stopped at 1. Now I say that they are a year and a half, then I will move to almost 2, then 2, and so on.

I used to find it kind of annoying before I had kids when people would say 19 months or 23 months - it was kind of a pain to do the math. Most people don't think in terms of months, just years. Now it doesn't bother me, but it used to.

I used months up until 18 months, then I changed to 1 1/2, 2, 2/1/2 and so forth. Because their birthday is a few weeks after Christmas, after that, I will use "almost 5" or whatever. I find myself using "almost 3" for Ainsley, even if it is 6 more weeks away. LOL. She is just so excited her birthday is coming.
I stopped I think at 18 months, because then I was counting how far along I was pregnant with A so after that. :D

I think I stopped doing months at about 24 months. Then I went by 1/2 years.
