My girls are 22 months... and for the last couple of weeks their one afternoon nap is kinda hit or miss. I do everything the same... sometimes they sleep, often times they don't. Today, they're up in their room now making noise. They've been up there almost 1 1/2 hours... just now one is starting to cry. Aren't they too young to give up naps completely? Usually one will fall asleep in their high chair at supper and be crabby the rest of the evening. Maybe I should bump up bedtime?

It totally depends, in my experience. My oldest napped pretty regularly until almost 5. Trey is close to 2 years younger and actually stopped napping before she did. But I still had them have quiet time, where he'd sometimes end up falling asleep and other times just play quietly on his bed. Adam, Sydney and Sabrina all stopped taking naps around 2 1/2. But they'd still need a nap about once/week for some extra sleep, until around 4. Spencer is 21 months and can go without a nap once in awhile, but two days in a row would be awful. He likes to take naps and goes down super easy most of the time, so I'm happy to have him keep it up!

I agree with Dielle. My oldest ds gave up naps right at 2.5 yrs old, my older dd was closer to 2. My twins just turned 2 and sometimes we'll skip a nap being out and about and they'll be ready for bed about 30-45 mins earlier that night, but we can't miss two days in a row, otherwise we start having meltdowns (the kids do too ).

My two are three and I would say they are just starting to shorten their naps on days that they take them and they don't take one every day. They have been lately because they've been dealing with a nasty cold. But on days that they don't nap, they still have quiet time in their room.

I agree with Dielle, it depends on the kids and could be any age.

My two have always napped in the same room, but lately that leads to jabbering the whole time and no naps. They definitely still need naps, though, because when they don't ever get to sleep they are very crabby, and meltdown at the smallest things (which is rare for them). So, we started napping them separate and it works MUCH better. They will nap in a sleeping bag on the floor so we just put one of them in a sleeping bag in a separate room and one in their normal bed and they are back to sleeping most days.
