When do I stop giving pureed foods and give ALL table foods?

I've been feeding my girls whatever we are eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner but I also still give them pureed baby food that is either homemade or by Gerber. When do I transition to ALL pieces of food and no baby food?

    Thanks,

I'm working on that right now too. I try to just give them 'regular' food whenever possible but if we are in a hurry I keep a few of the older baby jarred food on hand. I think a good goal is to have them off of 'baby' food around a year. I've been trying to remember what we did with our older DD but can't :unknw: - she hated mush anyway so I think she was probably off it around a year.

Kelly, I think I just went by when they became uninterested in it. We are still eating some baby food here, mostly veggies, because they don't seem to like the finger food version!

Mine are 11 months old now and we stopped baby food at about 10 months. Mainly because they won't eat it! They started refusing any type of pureed food and anything being fed to them. They want table food and they only want to feed themselves. So I guess I'd say - you can stop anytime you want, they are definitely old enough. But someday they might also tell you when they are done with it. :)

Mine are almost all finger food at this point. We keep some pureed food around, but we have been branching out into the pastas and deli meats and cheeses.... my dd doesn't like to feed herself as much as her brother does, so she gets a little cranky when she has to do it herself ...lol... they kinda moved themselves into the finger food without much prodding from us. I would just introduce them to it a little at a time and see how it goes.

I started feeding my guys strictly table food by the time they were 9 months, but I have babies that are not mush fans. (They liked their baby food chunky and thick to start with) I'd say go with what they seem to like! If they do well with table foods then offer those as much as possible. You certainly aren't going to hurt anything by offering them purees though.

My oldest was 8 months and again, I am working towards 8-9 months.

If they weren't interested anymore, I didn't give it to them. Kevin still likes some of the fruits so he still gets them.

The girls are kicking pureed baby food to the curb! I try to give it to them but they want nothing to do with me feeding them. I try to get one stage 2 container in them at each meal and then let them have table food for the rest of their meal. Sometimes they humor me and each the whole container - sometimes they don't.

Hmmmm....I still give them stage 2 and 3 foods at times. Sometimes it's just the quickest least messy way to get those veggies and fruits in them, especially when we are out for the day. They still love them and since they eat lots of table foods I don't see anything wrong with giving it to them but that's JMO.

Mine are 19 months. We use the pureed fruits-mostly prunes for regularity- to flavor their oatmeal every morning as well as to flavor vanilla yogurt. They gobble it up, so why not? I also carry a couple of jars of veg turkey in the diaper bag in case we go somewhere out and about and they won't eat what are eating and it's the best option. I figured if they like it, why not as long as they are eating lots of table foods too?

Mine have been on all table food since 10 months. We did have a few jars left in our cabinet that we gave for dinner one night. They will pretty much eat anything . . . except for chicken. I don't know the reason behind that! Good luck!

I do mostly table food, but still finish off with a jar to make sure they have had enough, I also always bring a jar to dinner when we go out. I also use fruits to flavor thier cereal and plain yogurt (use greek yogurt).

Whenever you want. :) If they're eating table foods then you don't have a problem with them rejecting them and pureed foods can be convenient.

Ditto above! Do what works best for you and your twins! My son was not a huge fan of any food, but table foods even less so, so we made the switch gradually and were completely on table foods by 14 months or so. The girls are already completely on table foods since they LOVE to eat & will eat pretty much anything you put in front of them (even strong flavors like curry!). I use regular applesauce to flavor plain, whole-milk yogurt & their oatmeal, but those are the only foods I spoon-feed them. Otherwise, they eat poultry, tons of cheese, toast spread w/applesauce or mashed bananas, waffles, many fruits, most veggies...pretty much I chop up whatever we're eating and put it on their trays. Makes mealtimes SO easy!

    Good luck!

As soon as they'll take it. For my girls it was like 13 months that we were entirely done with the baby foods (except prunes for constipation), but it sounds like yours are moving along more quickly than my girls were at that age.

I think whenever you feel they are ready and you are ready is fine. It sounds like they are doing a good job with table food already. :) You could just stop giving it to them now. My oldest DD was on all table food by 9 months, once she started table food, she didn't want the purees anymore. My twins we waited a bit longer since they were preemies. But they were off all purees by 12.5 months. I was glad to give up the jarred food.

So if you think they are ready now and eating a nice variety and you are ready to give it up, go for it!

I had done that at the 10 month mark. They were not too into baby food anyways, after getting their taste of table food.

Ditto on 'as soon as they will take it' Our pedi said most are ready by 15 months. It was about then that I completely switched.
