    Hi Ladies,
I am 28 weeks today and tomorrow morning I have an ultrasound and Dr's appt. I was just wondering when Dr's typically start doing pelvic exams? I havent had a pelvic exam since 7 weeks. Should I expect a pelvic exam tomorrow? Also right now I am at biweekly appts. After 28 weeks will I start going every week? I think thats what my doctor told me a long time ago, but I can't remember...

Oh and I notice lots of you are getting NST's. Do Dr's do that even if everything is going okay? When would I start those?

Thanks, I guess I had more questions than I orginally thought :)

I have yet to have a pelvic exam...not sure when they'll start for me!
My first NST is scheduled for 34 weeks (I've had a very uneventful pregnancy to this point).

Good luck tomorrow with the ultrasound and OB appt!

I had one at 24 and 28 weeks cause they thought maybe preterm. Since then I have only had one office visit check at 36 weeks.

I didn't have any issues so I dudn't get one until about 35 weeks. If you are not having any symptoms of pre term labor you probably wont have one until much later.

At 28 weeks we started pelvics.

I never had any Stress Tests.

I went another 4 weeks till I was 32 then every 2 weeks.

I start NST's at 28 weeks, once a week. It's kind of a pain, but it showed last time that I was having a lot of contractions pretty early on so I guess I don't mind. I believe my weekly appointments started at 32 weeks as did my pelvic exams. My set was born at 35w5d.

I started getting the pelvic exams at 30 weeks. Then I started going in to see my OB every week and at 32 weeks started having the NSTs done two times a week. My doctor wanted the NSTs and I had no issues what-so-ever, he just wanted to make sure. By the end of my pregnancy, I was at some sort of doctor four out of the seven days of the week. But worth it.

    :)

Up to 30 weeks they would check my cervix length with the ultrasound. Then no one seemed to care what it looked like til my visit today at 35 weeks when I had a manual check. I started doing NST's at 32 weeks but I have discordinant growth and pre-e.

I started getting pelvic exams at every appointment starting at 32 weeks, after I went to the hospital having a pile of contractions, which thankfully weren't doing anything. I've been seeing my OB weekly since about 30 weeks.

I had a cerclage placed at 13 weeks so my OB was checking it at every appt. (which was every 2 weeks). Then I was diagnosed with placenta previa so he stopped checking me. I'm being monitored every 3 weeks via u/s so no sense in poking around down there for now. :) With DS, he checked me at every appointment throughout my pregnancy.

I don't know about NST's. Gosh, I hope I don't have to do those. I'd much rather have the u/s. I don't have access to childcare during the day and my 15 month old (and I) would go bonkers if we had to do 1-2 hour NST's every week.

Well I asked my Dr about all my questions yesterday. I will start having NST's, pelvic exams, and weekly appts at 32 weeks. Thanks for all your responses :)

No NST's for me and I never had my first pelvic exam till I was 38w. A day before I was induced. My OB didn't like to mess around down there UNLESS it was completely neccessary and my pregnancy was very good.

They do one at 24 weeks (unless you a have a history of early dilation or PTL. . . then they start before). Then routinely not again until after 32 weeks unless, like I said, there is some kind of reason to check.

I have pregnant friends who aren't getting pelvic exams until later in pregnancy (I think around 30-something weeks), my doctor has seen fit to give me one every 4 weeks.

They usually check my cervix via ultra sound. I don't think they want to poke around down there too much.

I did not have my pelvic exam yet. I have an apt this week...so, I am not sure what it's going to be like!!!
My OB said I'd be going for NSTs every week from 32 weeks.

I was one of those lucky women who had pelvics at almost every appointment <_< . But I think they may start normally at around 30+ weeks.

    Hello-

I am new to this whole message board and truly need some major advice from other mom's that have had or are having twins.

I have a 1 year old and I am pregnant with twins. I will be 21 weeks this Friday. I am a twin and honestly I wasn't ready to have twins. I am very nervous and overwhelmed. I found out 6 weeks ago that I am having twins so you can imagine how shocking it still is today.

At any rate, the topic is on pelvic exams - I went to my OB yesterday and he said that they will start doing pelvic ultrasound and then actual checks (rotate every 2 weeks) starting 23 weeks. I told him no and my gut feeling says no and I don't understand why it is necessary to go there when I had a great pregnancy w/my son last year and no preterm labor no problems ,nothing. a friend of mine had a pelvic exam at 27 weeks and her twins were born the next day.

My mother and many women back in the 70's and earlier were never given these exams and the babies were born full term. My mother died when I was 10.5 months so can't ask her any questions, however, she had a baby in 1970, 1971, and then 1972 (twins) and managed to carry us full term.

I am extremely healthy, (high protein/calorie diet)I drink a gallon of water daily, and I rest 2x a day and I am in bed around 8Pm nightly. I am 5'6 and now weigh 141 lbs and pretty much all belly. No high blood pressure no issues at this time. I do have hoshimoto's, but that is being monitored closely (I have had a thyroid prob all my life). My attitude having these babies full term is positive. However, I do have some stress and that will probably be the only thing to get me if I don't control it now. I am eliminating as much stress as I can, however, just the thought of having twins and how I am going to "handle" it when they get here is another stressor.

I read Dr. Barbara Luke's what to expect from multiples and that is certainly helping me with a few things I need to do at this point, however, the pelvic just boggles my frustrated mind.

    Any thoughts????????

    Any advice is truly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Victoria

I had the transvaginal u/s up until 30 weeks to check my cervix and have only had an internal done once, becaue there was something wrong with my urine test. I can't remember what exactly. I was told they would only check me if there was a reason to. Since I'm already scheduled for a c-section on Mon., I might have her check me today, just to see if I am even dialated. I'm curious and the worst case is that I go into labor on my own a couple days early. We'll see if she will even do it. She might not see a reason to.

I've been going to the peri every 2 weeks since the beginning- when we found out we were having twins (11 weeks). He does a quick ultrasound to find the heartbeats and a pelvic exam at every appt. I'm having di/di twins with no problems so far, and even when I have an ultrasound where they measure the cervix he still does a manual exam. There's never any physical discomfort or spotting from it. I start going every week at 30 weeks.

I never had a pelvic exam. We had a c-section scheduled and they never did one. Early on they told me they didn't want to do one because I had a low lying placenta and they didn't want to chance anything. I started seeing my doctor weekly around 28 weeks I think. Before that it was every 2 weeks. As far as NST's, I started those around 32 weeks and had one every 4-6 days for the rest of my pregnancy. I never had any complications with my pregnancy, but still had to do them.
