When do/did you stop using monitors?

    Hi All!

I am wondering when you were able to stop using monitors or when you plan on not using them anymore. The boys are easily sleeping through the night and have been for a while but I still feel like I need to have it on in case something happens and they need me. With the new baby coming in September I am wondering if I will/should be still using their monitor then and have to get a new one for the new baby. It seems kind of silly to have 2 monitors...

Please let me know what your thoughts are, any advice is welcomed!

    Thanks,
    Megan

P.S. Mods, feel free to move/link this if you think this topic fits better in another forum. :)

    Hi Megan!

I have never used a monitor at night! There is no way that I wouldn't hear a baby crying!! And I wouldn't get any sleep at all if I heard every noise they made!! I think it's all in what you feel comfortable with. :)

I'm addicted to my video monitors! It is a comfort for me to be able to look at them if I hear a noise during the night. Hopefully I can break the habit before they are teenagers :p On second thought maybe I will want to keep an even closer eye then ;)

Seriously though, I will probably use them until they are out of their cribs.

I was thinking the same thing :icon_biggrin: . I'll just have to get good at hiding it when they're teens though...

Like Rose, I am a monitor addict. I lay in bed just watching them sleep  I think I will stop using them when they can get out of bed, turn on a light, walk down the steps, and get to our bedroom. :D So I am thinking quite some time? No idea when they will be able to do that all, but I **need** to know if they need me and I am a deep sleeper, so hearing through the hallway wouldn't work. Okay, enough rambling!

We still use sound and video monitors. I like to know what is going on at all times.

We also have the video monitors and plan on using them at least until they move from their cribs to their beds. I sometimes set them up in their playroom when I'm in the kitchen so that I can also watch them while they play.

We don't use a monitor at night and we close their door and ours. However, they are directly across the hall from us. Sometimes my DH will use a monitor when he's downstairs and they're asleep upstairs.

We still use a sound monitor, even though they have been sleeping throungh the night since 3 months. I am just paranoid and like the "security" I feel with hearing all of their movements, coughs, etc. I will keep it until I feel I no longer need it, I guess.

Ok...I don't use a monitor at night but I use one for the one baby because Lord knows our whole neighborhood can hear the other one if he would start to cry!

I don't use a monitor never did. I do put one in the basement in case I'm doing laundry or something that way I can hear them while I'm down there.

We stopped using a monitor around three months when they started sleeping through the night. They are across the hall from us so I can hear them if they wake up. We still use the monitor for downstairs or if we are outside. DH also set a camera up in their nursery. All I have to do is turn on our tv in the master bedroom and I can watch both my babies sleeping.

I am a monitor addict and I'm not sure when I'll stop using them. I still have a sound monitor in my 3yr old's room. Most would think this excessive but we have a 3 story house and we all sleep with our doors shut. We have a monitor for Aaron's room and one for the twin's room. One receiver sits on my bedside table and one on my husbands (not that he ever hears any of them). We also have receivers on each floor and turn them on when they go upstairs for naps or bed. I would never hear the babies when they wake up even if I'm in the same floor. I would probably hear my 3 yr old if we was super upset, but I don't want him to get *that* upset. One reason my 3 yr old still has a monitor is he does not nap most days, but he still goes to his room for "quiet time''. At this time he often decides it's okay to jump on the bed or perform some other activity that could get him hurt. I want to know what he is doing and if he is hurt. Personally, once they are out of the crib things get more dangerous for a while as they learn how to behave. Our home is childproofed and all of the large furniture is attached to the walls, but they can still get into trouble!
