When did yours get their canine teeth?

It seems like most 2-year-olds have their canine teeth (the ones just to the outside of the 4 middle ones), but neither of my DDs have any of theirs yet. Every once in a while they are really cranky and chewing on their fingers, and I think "finally!" but then nothing happens. Just curious what the normal range for this is.

(FWIW, they got their first teeth kind of late -- they were almost 8 months. But the rest, up through the first-year molars, came in by 15 months. Nothing since then!)

Weird! I think Bea got hers just after the first two bottom teeth, like at 8-9 months. I know, it was weird that she got them then and she looked kind of odd until the other front teeth came in. Ainsley got hers after the front teeth, closer to 12 months.

My Amber got hers right around 24 months. Emily's just popped through within the past couple weeks.

I got curious and did some googling, and found this useful site (Canadian Dental Health Association):

    http://www.cdha.ca/content/oralcare_centre...iew&id=1184

It even has a little chart that gives the names of all the teeth (apparently the canines are technically the "cuspids"). It lists the average age of eruption for the cuspids as 16-22 months for the top, and 17-23 months for the bottom.

The site also says you should floss your 12-24-month-old's teeth! I'm sure it's a good idea, but honestly, I can't imagine. I can barely get a toothbrush inside their mouths some days.

Mine got theirs on the early end of normal (about 16 months) but my nephew got his canines as his first teeth. Talk about weird! I was going to refer you to the ADA site but it has basically the same info as the Canadian one.

ETA: I have flossed their teeth before after they finished eating foods that get stuck between teeth. It was rough. We don't do it every day. Makes me wonder, though, if other people do?

My girls were probably around 20-22mos before they got theirs. They get their teeth late too, especially Amanda, and my pedi said that there is evidence that shows people who get their teeth later, have stronger teeth somehow. I guess because they are exposed to stuff later? Dunno.

I think it's perfectly normal and fine your's don't have their cuspids yet. Mine don't have their 2yo molars yet - not even close.
