start sitting up? People ask me all the time if the twins are sitting up yet. I am starting to wonder if they should already be doing it. I know every baby is different but I just wanted an idea about when they should start. Does anyone have any ideas on helping them learn? I usually set them on the floor with the boppy behind them. Is there anything else I can do? TIA

Mine had it down by 6 months but it is more common by 7 months from what I have gathered from others! You are doing great!

Love their shirts in your ticker! [IMG]

I just talked to my sons PT about this today (he goes for toricollis). She really wants him sitting unassisted within the next month. She said by 7/8 months Seamus should be sitting on his own. Nicholas does not go to PT but he cant sit either.

My boys rolled from back to stomach months ago but could not go the other way until very recently. I have spent so much time with them trying to roll that I guess I have not focused on them sitting.

I think it is hard to practice sitting with 2 babies. But I need to start giving each baby time and have them sit to strengthen those muscles. Each of my boys can do it for about 10 seconds.

Sitting on the floor with the boppy behind them is exactly what the PT said today. Also, put toys in front of them so they have something to focus on (unleess she said that specifically for my son??)

DD had it by 6 months, but DS not until around the 7 month mark.

It's usually 6-7 months. My oldest was closer to 7.

Josie was sitting well unassisted by 8 months, so 6 1/2 months adjusted age. Bella didn't sit unassisted until closer to 9 1/2 months, but she spent some time in a body cast.

Thanks ladies! I guess some people don't realize that they were preemies and may take longer to do things. That's why I love TS because I can talk to other twin moms. I like talking to my friends with singletons but sometimes I just don't think they actually get it. I try to explain to them how it is different but they really don't understand.

Mine didn't even show interest in wanting to sit until a little after 7 months, and didn't sit up unassisted until 8 months.

Ainsley did it at 7.5 months and Sierra at 8.5. We worked with Sierra by sitting her in the Boppy in front of her learning gym so she could sit and play. We put some smashed up receiving blankets under the back of the Boppy to give her some back support and then slowly removed them over time until she was sitting on her own.

This is from the handout the county nurse gave me

"Each day spend some time sitting with me on the floor. Position me so that I am between your legs with my back near your chest. Support my back by holding me at my sides, slightly under my arms. Let me play with some toys or look in a mirror. Over the next few weeks, gradually lower your hands. The closer your hands are to my hips, the more support I have to give myself. If I start to slump over, provide me with more support by placing your hands higher on my sides."

My DH and I do this with the twins facing each other so they can talk (or just stare at each other). I also sit on the floor with one twin sitting against one knee and the other twin sitting opposite against the other knee. They lean quite a bit, but I do my best to keep them up right. When they are ready, the handout says to give them an upside down pot or tall toy for them to lean on.

Mine are 7 months and are just starting to sit by themselves in the boppy. If they are concentrating on a toy they will sit up for longer.

I was a little worried about this too, my girls were 6 and a half months and still needed support to sit up.
they had it down by 7 months.

My DS is started sitting unassisted in the last week. My DD still uses a boppy. She can sit as long as she is focused on a toy in front of her.

Mine were both 6lb babies and didn't sit up until nearly 8 months. My older son was sitting up before 6 months. My pediatrician told us twins do everything slower. But mine went from sitting up to crawling in just a couple of weeks, so we'll see when they start walking.

My DD just started sitting up this week - I have to put her in the sitting positon but she will stay there, its so amazing to see - she is 5 1/2 months. DS is getting there but needs to be supported more. They don't show any interest in rolling over though - isn't that suppose to come first?!

Mine were almost 9 months old (7 months adjusted) when they finally started sitting up. It is so funny to see them as they are still so little. They also over the last week or so have started pulling to stand and even cruising just a little. How can they learn to do everything all at once?? Isn't every milestone wonderful!!

I think it's common btw 6-9 mo and 7 mo being most common. At 6 months many kiddos can sit for a few seconds before toppling. Mine started sitting unassisted at 6 mos, but that is early.
