When did your twins transition to one nap?

Good morning ladies! When did your kiddos transition to one nap? What were the nap times? We used to do 9-11 and 1-3. Lately they've been sleeping 2-3 hours in the morning and not wanting the afternoon nap. Yesterday it took them over an hour to fall asleep for the morning nap and went down fine for the afternoon nap. I can't figure out what they want! I need to figure it out soon though because we are taking a music class in the fall and we'll either do the 10:30 or 11:30 class. Not sure which time to signup for! There is also a 9:30 class. I wonder if we should do that one!

We're in the process of doing it right now at almost 20 months. I work 3 days a week and I always put them up in the AM on the days I work so I can get ready. On those days, here's the schedule:

    Wake 6:30-7:00
    Nap 9:30-11:00
    Nap again 2:00-3:30-4:00
    Bedtime 7:30

On the weekends we've been putting them down for just one nap after lunch around 12:00, because we always have something to do in the afternnon. They haven't been sleeping that long though. It seems that when Mon. rolls around, they need the two naps to make up for lost sleep over the weekend. Yesterday they napped in the AM and just threw a party in their room for the PM nap. Then they're cranky at dinnertime. I can't figure it out and I hate change. Looking forward to hearing everyone else's schedule.

    Mine were too young!!!!! LOL!

Mine did it at 11 months and I was none too pleased.
They're morning naps were getting a little harder to fall asleep for and then they couldn't fall asleep in the afternoon, it was clear what was happening :(

    How old are yours? {your ticker isn't updated}
I bet they'd be tired at teh class for a while and then get used to it.
I just started pushing their morning nap later by about 15 minutes every few days until I got it to just after a really early lunch.

My girls turned 1 on July 9th but they were 7 weeks early so their adjusted 1 yr is the end of August. Today they wokeup about 7:15 and I put them down at 10am for nap. They went down just fine. They are still sleeping at 11:30. Our music class starts in the Fall. Should I do the 9:30, 10:30 or 11:30 class? It's a 12 week class and ends in December. I don't know what to do!

    Thanks,

we are in the process of doing it now. Gabe sounds like your little ones...he switched on his own sooner than his brother. Taking long AM naps and not sleeping in the PM. Nate still will slump over and fall asleep in the AM, but it's getting better. I try to give them lunch a little early and put them down by about noon. They will sleep 3-4 hours sometimes!! whoohoo!! Eventually I will push naptime to about 1pm.

Our tranisition started at around 18 months-- it took a few months of somedays taking 2 naps and some days just 1. I didn't force the issue. Finally at about 22 months they officially went to one nap a day which is usually around noon or 1 p.m.

My girls stopped their afternoon nap at 14 months. Before our schedule was up at 6am, nap by 9am, up at 11am, nap at 2, up at 3. Now our schedule looks like up at 7am, down at 11am, up at 1-2 and then bed at 7:30pm...

We transitioned around 19 months. It actually took some trial and error for me to figure out. I gave up on our first attempt and waited about 6 weeks to try again and had success. I did put them down for 2 naps a few times as needed.

We went from morning nap at 9-10:30 and 1-2:30-ish to one nap at 12:30. Eventually nap time got pushed back to 1:00 and then to 1:30.

    Good luck. :)

I just transitioned mine last month, so 17 months. They were still taking 2 naps and I hated to do it, but my oldest DD starts back to school the end of Aug. and I had to have them down to one nap by then. It was just getting too hard to try and squeeze 2 naps in between 9-3:15. They much better than I expected. But now the mornings are LONG, but it does let us get out in the morning as well.

My girls were going through a rough patch a couple weeks back so I thought I'd try the one nap thing b/c they seemed to want it. But that only lasted a few weeks and now they're back to two naps. They just take them about a half hour later. So we were doing 1st nap at 9:30 and now it's 10am. The 2nd nap was at 2:30 and now it's 3pm. They sleep about an hour to an hour and half each time.

I recently read that the average is 18-21 months with a transition period lasting days or weeks where they might take one or two naps or need to go to bed early.

We went through quite a few periods of naptime disruptions when teething was heaviest (12-14 months and then the dreaded canines at 16 months). They slept OK at night so I thought each time that they might be transitioning to one nap and tried it. It was a disaster every time until they were 20 months when they began the transition with no teething symptoms. The morning nap got a little later and much longer and they'd skip the afternoon nap. I put them to bed early when they seemed to need it. The nap has shifted a bit later over time and now it's 11:30 - 2 plus or minus 30 minutes and they wake up at about 6:30 so it's right in the middle of their day.

I think they transitioned around 14 months. Mine had stopped taking the morning nap though, not the afternoon. When they first transitioned, they took the nap early, before lunch at 10:30. I slowly moved it back to where it is now, 12:30. They wake at 7:00.

I would say take the 9:30 class, that way, if they are napping a bit early at first like mine did, you can probably get home in time for a nap. Give them a decent snack before class and that should help them get through.
