When did your twins set up?

My girls are 4 months, they can sit up with assistance. But when you prop them up in a swing or baby chair, etc they can't hold their heads steady. They do pretty good. But not great. We go back to the ped on July 2nd for their 4 mos checkup & I think we are suppose to start solids then. But i can't imagine trying to feed them baby food with the way their heads woble sometimes.

We have a Bumbo baby seat that is suppose to be good for posture & all, but they still boble some in it.

    Thanks Ladies

Mine were 7.5 months old when they could completely by themselves. What helped them the most was taking them to the grocery store and putting them in the childrens seat of the basket where they had to sit up.

Emma was 5.5 months, she was my earliest! And Jacob was my latest at 8 months! He was crawling before he was sitting!

As far as the bobbleheads, they may not be ready for solids at 4 months. Not all babies are. Being able to sit up(with some support) is one of the signs of being ready for solids.

    Why do you think that?

We didn't start solids until 6 months. They don't need solids nutritionally speaking until then.

Mine were very steady at 6 months. Definately not totally secure at 4 months, and IMHO, not ready for solids.

Mine didn't sit very steadily (even propped) until at least 5 months -- unassisted (if you sit them up) at about 6 months. They also didn't really do that well in the Bumbo seat -- I think they found it frustrating not to be able to lean back or lie down when they wanted to. They just always looked very uncomfy.

We also didn't start solids until 6 months. Unless there is some specific medical reason to start them earlier (reflux or something), there is absolutely no reason to start at 4 months, no matter what the ped says. That has somehow become the "usual" age, but breastmilk or formula is better for them until 6 months. Also, if you start before they are ready, they won't enjoy it, and it will become a battle.

Even at 6 months, the first time I tried solids, both my DDs just spit them out and refused to allow the spoon back in. I waited a couple of weeks and tried again.

I feed solids in a bouncy seat, sometimes their high chair (we have a Stokke so slightly different) but they're 6 1/2 months. They can sit up for a little bit by themselves (hands on the floor). My oldest was sitting at 7 1/2 months, so I think the twins are aiming for that too. My ped said they should be sitting for 60 seconds (independantly) at 9 months.

Mine are just behind yours in age and they are still bobbling some too. most babies are not usually ready to sit up unassisted until 6mo+

I think most babies are around 6 months when they start sitting fairly well. Mine were all in that range, but some can be earlier or quite a bit later all babies are different. Yours are definitely not behind. I would wait to start solids until they develop a bit more upper body strength & can hold their heads steady. Believe me, it won't be long. :)

My girls couldn't sit up until 7.5 and 8.5 months. They had a bit of a head wobble until about 4 months or so. Dax is getting his head wobble a little more under control now at 3 months but he was a 42 weeker. You don't have to start solids until 6 months old so don't do it if you, or the babies, aren't ready. There's no rush.

My girls sat up unassisted at 5 months (they were early). We didn't start solids until 6 months, 4 months seems really early to me. When we started solids I always fed them in their bouncy seat. It was much easier. HTH

Your girls sound like they are doing just fine. :)

My guys both had it down by about 6.5 months. First attempt was about 4.5 months and they keep going at it til they perfected it. :D

It took my boys until they were 7-7 1/2 months to be very steady sitting unsupported.

We started solids at 6 mo.

I was going to ask the same thing about the solids. Why 6 mos? Is that what your ped suggested? Most peds suggest starting at 6 months unless your children are consuming 40oz of formula/bm a day.

Arwen sat up unassisted at almost exactly 6 months and Lorien 3 weeks later. Although there were still occasional tip overs :D

I think mine were around 7.5 / 8months old ( 6 months adjusted age) before they could sit up unassisted. x
