When did your twins assume their "final position"?

Hi all. I am presently 20w, and at my last scan (19w) both babies were transverse. Four legs on my right side... no wonder I get the crap kicked out of me on that side!
Anyway, my doctor said that *most* twins will not change positions after 30 weeks. I was wondering what your experiences are? I am really hoping for a vaginal birth, which of course means that Baby A must be head down. Now I am just wondering how much longer I have to hope that they turn...

    TIA

I also asked this question at my last Ob appt, i was also 19 wks, the Ob told me that within the next 10 weeks ( around 30 wks) is when they should start to turn and settle into their final positions. Hope this helps.

I'm interested in this as well. Up until now, both babies have been transverse, but at my last quick ultrasound at the OB (19 wks. 3days), one was vertex and one was breech. Not sure which was which, though.

can't answer your question, but check out spinningbabies.org (i think it's org, it might be .com); it's a site that shows some ways to help the babies shift into place if they are not head down. Pretty cool stuff - what i found most interesting is the recommendation not to hang out leaning back on the couch, since it makes it more difficult for the babies to get into the proper position.

of course, ALL i want to do these days is lean back since there's not a lot of room to sit up straight, so..... [IMG]

I think it varies ... I thought my girls would stay in the same position after my 31 week appt. Both were breech at the time. Then, three weeks later, B decided to turn head down. One of mine is small, though, so maybe she had a little more room to shift than if she were as big as the other one. Who knows...but my doc had said around 30 - 32 weeks they usually started to stay put!

Hmmmm. I'm 36 weeks and my doc keeps telling me there's time for baby A to turn head down.

??? That's interesting. Baby A has been breech for me since 18 weeks. I think she made an attempt to turn the other night, I kept seeing her butt pop up like she was trying to fold in half, but i think there just wasn't enough room, cuz when Doc checked me, she still felt feet kicking at my cervix.....

I went all 40 wks and my Baby B flipped up until the very day I delivered them. Baby A went from vertex to breech back to vertex around 26 wks and then stayed put but Baby B just kept on flipping from breech to vertex and back again. He was vertex at my u/s at 39 wks and at 39 wks 4 days he was back to breech. I delivered him that way. My dr told me there was no way they would or ever could flip after about 36 wks....and usually at about 34 is when they stop. He said if he did flip again it would be very painful for me and it just physically wasn't possible given the size of the 2 of them. But they defied him and just kep on going. And I never knew. I was aware of alot of movement but it wasn't painful and I never could tell he was in the middle of a flip. And B was the bigerof the 2 weighing in at 7'2! LOL!

I think they can flip at any point up till the last moments. For me they were head down from 18 weeks on. I'd say you still have plenty of time for them to flip.

My boys were both vertix at 24 weeks. then at 26 weeks baby A was breech. The next U/S I had at 28 weeks they were both vertix again and they've been like that since. I'm at 33 weeks now and I have a feeling they aren't going to flip. They seem to be competeing over who gets to come out first. They are both really far down.

Not until 36 weeks. Baby B turned at that time.

My baby A (Connor) went head-down at about 28 weeks and stayed there until the end. Baby B (Chase) moved every single ultrasound - he was tucked under my ribs and would flip around all the time. He never went head-down.

Mine were both transverse for a long time, then 1 head up one head down for 6-7 weeks. The somewhere between by 35 week appointment and 35.2 days when my water broke, the 2nd flipped to breech... They can really go anytime and either way! [IMG]

My babies were head down at 20w and 26w, but between my 26w and 30w u/s my boy (baby B) flipped completely and stayed breech until my delivery. I had a vaginal delivery since baby A was vertex and baby B was born by breech extraction.

I am 34 weeks with twin girls, and both are transverse. My doc says c-section is iminant, but I'm still hoping for a flip from them and a vaginal delivery. Good to know that it has happened for other moms, my doc says it wont. Keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck to you too.

My sonographer said that during her experience, twins will flip even more than a singleton in later weeks. She thinks it's absolutely nuts that they manage to pull it off- but that's what she's seen! So you really never know!

my twin A flipped 2 days b-4 they were born at 35w4d, and he'd been flipping every week from about 30 weeks on. so they can flip until they get stuck I guess. I didn't like it when he was breech cuz he would always try to remove my ribs with his head! ouch! just my $0.02

I have been getting 3 ultrasounds a week (2 quickies so they can determine position for hte NSTs) and every time they are in a different position. THe tech told me Friday they don't count on any given position until contractions start because they can very easily change any time up to that point. I guess its a waiting game for us all.

My two boys are breech right now. The positions that the lamaze teacher tells me I can do just hurt my back. No thanks! I am just going to wait it out and hope for the best. As long as the two of them are healthy. [IMG]
