We are still experiencing explosive spit-ups, but now it is coming from other DD. I am wondering when others who had spit-up prone babies saw it get better without meds. I have read it could be anytime up to one year or so.

My oldest dd had it until 7 1/2 months (29 December 2004 to be precise). She gained weight rapidly (90-95% from day 1), didn't get any meds, was a happy baby ... she just couldn't get it down. She ate very quickly (tried everything) and loved (and still loves) to eat. In the end, gravity helped a lot ... when she started to sit up really well, it ended from one day to another.

I heard normally it gets better at around 3-4 months and/or when you start solids, but that wasn't true in our case. My ds spits up a little bit too, his sister hardly, but not as bad as my oldest. So I hope it passes a little quicker this time.

One of them stopped around 5 months, but she wasn't a big spitter to begin with.

My big spitter, not on meds (happy spitter), still spits. Some weeks it is a lot less and I get my hopes up that it is going away, and then the next week it's back with a vengeance.

Going on solids did not help the problem at all.

C&K just stopped probably around 9 1/2 months. They still occassionally spit up, but not after every feeding like they used to (they were never on meds).

    Hi there,

i've read that allergies or dairy protein intolerance can cause excessive spitting up.... if you're not treating for reflux, you may want to investgate that. just a thought.

good luck.... qw just put my super spitter on prilosec and it minimizing his spitups.

Mine were not more spit-up prone than average, but I think it got a lot better around 4 months or so.

Still waiting - both were diagnosed with Reflux, but have been off meds for sometime now, and have no more/less than they did on Prevacid.

If it's projectile, havd the Ped check for Pyloric Stenosis. Both my girls had it.

They also both have reflux. Zegerid helps them tremendously. As the babies gain upper body strength, it gets better for most. Sitting up is when it really finally started to lessen some. They are 10 months and still spitup, but NOTHING like it used to be. We don't have to wear bibs 24/7 anymore!

Skylar was horrible at spitting up, I mean you'd give her 6 oz. of formula and somehow she spit up 8oz. It's finally gotten better but she does spit up a little.
