When did your doctor schedule your delivery?

My OB and MFM are not on the same page with who is in charge. I am working that out with them but it seems like I keep missing steps/tests etc while those two just treat me independently. That being said, I see that many of you have been scheduled for deliver in the 36-38 week time frame. When did your OB or peri talk to you about scheduling your delivery? I realize I am early still but since I am taking control of my treatment (I have to or they would just forget that I need to deliver), I want to make sure it is brought up at the appropriate time. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I didn't have anything scheduled yet but my OB told me that he will not let me go more then 38 weeks with twins.

My OB had scheduled me for a c-section at 39 weeks (the hospital wouldn't let it be scheduled earlier). As it turns out, I had an OB visit at 36wk1day, and he said "You know, I'm really surprised you've lasted this long" because my belly looked huge and I'm not a large person. I'm 5'5" and normally 135.
I ended up calling him the next morning because my water broke at 8:23am (I remember vividly the time). He supposes he was just able to talk to the babies and say "ok, time for you to vacate the premises".

My OB brought up the timing of my c-section around 26 weeks and then I went ahead and scheduled it about a week ago. I think am early but in my case I wanted to schedule it for the last day possible and I didn't want to risk having to go a bit earlier because the OBs in my practice were already booked.

I asked my OB about this at my second prenatal visit. He said usually at 36/37 weeks, they will schedule the induction. I have an appt with him tomorrow and it's one of the things they told me he will discuss at that time. For my practices, MFM follows the babies and the OB follows the pregnancy so there is clear delineation on who is in charge of what. So if the babies were showing signs of distress, then MFM would discuss this with the OB for the proper plan of care.

If you feel that things are being missed, I would ask them plainly who is in charge ultimately of the pregnancy to make sure you're more comfortable with the situation.

Thanks for the delination explanation. One issue I am having is that I have GD (yes, this early) and neither wanted to take charge of who was monitoring it, although the MFM states it is one of the things they do. I have appointments with both of them so I need to just ask them what is up. I want them both to be clear on who is doing what and who is making what decisions.

I go to a "traditional" OB (I used a home birth midwife with DS), but he is very much on the natural side of things...he said that he won't worry about inducing unless a) there is a problem, or b) I'm past 40 weeks. Otherwise, he figures that with close monitoring (to insure nothing is going sideways), my body will do what it wants to do and when it wants to. He said that sometimes inducing before your body is ready, puts you at a higher risk of c/s which he (and I) want to avoid at all costs.

"The last thing in the world I want for you is to be recovering from major abdominal surgery, plus take care of twin newborns...AND your toddler son!"

So, long story short, planned induction is not on the table...unless of course, something starts going wrong...

My Dr. said that they consider twins full term at 38 weeks and will induce then. We will set my induction date at my next appointment. I will be 36 weeks and 2 days. I would ask if that is information that you need. Even if it seems early. I talked to my Dr. about who would be allowed in the delivery at like 24 weeks. That was for my own reasons. If it is worrying you go ahead and ask.

My OB didn't really start talking seriously about dates until I was 34 weeks. She set the date for 38 weeks. It's nice to have that date right now because I've hit the uncomfortable phase of pregnancy. It gives me another goal besides healthy babies.

We were scheduled for an induction at 38 weeks. My doctor would not go earlier than that. It ended up that my water broke at 37 weeks, 4 days. My two head-down babies were still born via c-section because labor never progressed for me AT ALL.

ETA: We didn't schedule anything until I was around 36 1/2 weeks.

My MFM will not schedule anything prior to 38 weeks, we'll wait till then unless they have to be out before that.

Just a follow up, I met with my OB today and he said he is looking to do the induction on 4/15 which would put me at 38 weeks. He said everything is going really well and I'm not having any issues so he thinks 38 will be just fine, no reason to go earlier.

That will be my 38 week date. Our twins may be birthday twins.

I was scheduled in my 36th week for my induction at 38w2d, so about 2 weeks prior.

My OB told me she would schedule no earlier then 38 weeks as long as I had no problems. Which I didn't, and when I made it to 38 weeks she said "let's see if we can make it to 39" I did and then she scheduled me in my 39th week. My water broke the day before but I still had to be induced.

My OB told me when I first met her (@12 weeks) that she will likely not let me go past 37 weeks and will deliver them the week of Aug. 25th. But I'm pretty sure I had asked her outright if she had a practice protocol that she goes by for twins and that's why she told me at the first visit. It's a little early for my liking, I would prefer to go naturally of course and to be at least 38 weeks. She says that she will listen if the mother wants to go longer and has gone to 40 weeks but prefers 37 weeks.

It must feel really awful feeling caught between two practitioners with no one actually taking the lead. I agree with others that you need to tell your OB how you feel and ask that they make the effort to get on the same page or at least delineate who is doing what. You don't need the extra stress of worrying if you will be getting the care that you need.

I had my kids at 36 weeks. It was an unscheduled c-sec.

My doc had not yet scheduled my c-sec. I went to my 36 week appt and instead of scheduling a c-sec, they wheeled me up to the er and I had them a few hours later.

Because of doctors's schedules, I was told they don't schedule more than a week or 2 in advance. I would pick who you want to deliver the babies first before you worry about scheduling anything. Looks like you have at least 16 more weeks before you should expect any scheduling to occur.

My OB scheduled my c-section at my 32 week appointment as Kalia was breech. She booked it for 37.5 weeks.

My doctor also said 38 weeks, but I am already 5 cm and 100 effaced. So she said at 36 weeks. I would go back to MFM and get an aminio to check their lungs and probally deliver earlier!!! I am so nervous to be home and deliver.
