When did your children stop wearing bibs?

My girls are almost 17 months, all my bibs I have are made in China, and I'm on the hunt for some made in the USA. I see that the Bumkins variety are just that, plus they note that they are lead, PVC, and Phthalate free on their site. I'm trying to decide between going neutral, which I can use for a future child, be it girl or boy, or go with girly colors because they'll use them long enough that I'll want new ones for a new baby anyways.

So how long do your DC's use bibs for?

No new babies to come in our family, but my girls are 21 months and I see no sign that they're ready to give up the bibs, so I just bought them some new ones at about 18 months. The old ones were getting really gross.

I have girls, but I bought some girly ones and some boy-y ones, because who needs pink all the time? And in fact, the blue ones with trucks and buses on them are their favorites. :icon_biggrin:

Of course, I did this BEFORE the made-in-China business. But as far as I can tell, the ones I bought (although they were made in China) aren't the ones that were recalled. Besides, I've read that the level of lead is very low, and the bibs are brand new and not torn or broken, and the girls don't chew on them -- they just wear them. On the overall level of risk, I think it's pretty low (a lot lower than, say, playing at a park on grass that's been fertilized with who-knows-what  ).

23 months and still wearing bibs. They actually do better with leaving them on now than they did at 18 months. They're very, very into dipping foods in sauces so the longer I can keep them wearing bibs, the better! My friend still bibs her 4yo -- he doesn't seem to mind.

Mine are still wearing bibs at this point. They actually love their bibs! We've actually always used the thicker cloth ones, those from Carter's, never used any vinyl ones, and the girls love all the cute designs.

Wow, you guys rock! My girls fought bibs from about 12 months on. We don't even try anymore!

We use Bumkins and we will keep using them for sometime, I am sure of it. I personally would want new ones if we had more children, since bibs do get kind of gnarly. We have three for each kid, and we have used the same ones for well over a year. I will continue to use these same ones since they are are still in decent condition (the white ribbing is just a little yellow).

My sons haven't used bibs for awhile because they kept ripping them off. The bibs I found only had velcro. I wish they had toddler bibs like I bought for my 11y when he was younger. You had to tie them and put the arms into it like a sleeve. They also had pockets.

I have bibs from my first daughter, who was born in '03, and we still use them today. I only buy them at WalMart, because this is the only place I can find them. They are fabric, but have a good plastic coating on the front. the bottoms button up a bit on the side to make a cup shape at the bottom. They repel stains well, and they hold up well in the washing machine. We probably have about 12 of them...keep them in the diaper bag, grammas house, plenty clean, plenty dirty. We love them, and I am sure others do as well, because they are frequently sold out of them at WalMart.

This sounds like the Bumkins that we use. My twins are 30 months and we still use bibs. I LOVE Bumkins, for the very reason that they have sleeves and they tie in the back (rather than velcro) so they're hard for the kids to get off. I like that I can just wipe them off after each meal, and then I throw them in the laundry at the end of the day.

Mine are all pretty boyish and neutral colors, just because I bought them from Ebay and didn't have a choice. The Bumkins can be a little warm in summer, so I cut some of them into short sleeves (they do sell short sleeve ones, but they had velcro and that doesn't work for us).

Mine STILL wear bibs at almost 3. Clothes are just too expensive not to! I love our bumkins bibs and also like the oilcloth bibs from Crocodile Creek. HTH :)

Mine stopped around 10 months. They were such a mess anyway that the bib just made one more thing to clean. So we started feeding them just in their diapers.

Mine stopped wearing bibs around 12 mos. They were strangling themselves trying to get them off! They are 2 1/2 now and are feeding themselves very well. I rarely have to remove stains from their clothing anymore.
