This poll has probably happened many times before. I am curious as to when your babies walked. If they walked a lot later than the average child, please clarify if they were preemies.

Michael and Mikayla are just beginning to walk. I am wondering if we are behind. It looked like they were "walking" a month ago. I had posted that we were walking, but they only took 2 steps and grabbed on the next thing. So I guess we weren't REALLY walking yet.

    Thanks!

I didn't vote b/c I didn't know how to. Gabe (A) started taking about 8 steps a week before he turned one and Abby was taking 3-4 steps. Within a week of their b-day they were walking all over. So, I guess a year.

Baby A Jorja walked at 13 months
Baby B Jessica walked at 10 months 3 weeks

They were born 37 weeks so I guess considered full term.

Both my girls walked at 17months. They took their first step together.
My singleton son started walking at 11months. Now that they are 3yrs old and running all over and full of attitude I sure do appreciate that they didnt walk at 11months like my singleton son did. [IMG]

Mine started taking 1-2 steps unassisted while cruising at 9 months but then made the leap to "real" walking right as they turned 11 months (one was a week before, one a week after). They were surprisingly stable walkers once they decided to go for it.

Twin A who was smaller walked just after their 1st birthday. And twin B walked at around 15 months. Tracey

I didn't answer the poll because I'm still waiting for mine to walk. They're almost 16 months old & are no where near walking. My DS was a late walker too. Some days it really worries me & other days I'm glad that I'm not having to chase after them yet. [IMG]

My boys were pulling up and surfing furniture around 10-11 months so I figured walking was coming fast. WRONG. They did not take steps on their own until 13-14 months! Then walking well by 15 months (just in time for Spring in VT!).

Your kiddos are barely a year! I would not worry unless they are not walking by 18 months [IMG]

Mine just started walking this past Tuesday. They were 3 days shy of being 16 months. They have been using furniture to cruise on and taking steps for a few months before the walking. Now they are constantly on the go.

I picked "before 12 months" since it was the only thing close; in fact, they did take their first steps within a week before their first b'day, but in general I say "12 months" 'cause that's when they started walking consistently.

Baby A didn't walk until 17.5 mos. Baby B didn't walk until 16 mos. They were term (boy, were they term!), and it was awful taking them out, having strangers ask, "Aren't they walking yet? Oh, they must've been premature? They weren't!?!? Well what's wrong with them?" They didn't even start cruising until around 12 months. I remember being very, very frustrated (much like I am with the lack of potty training right now).

In our case, I really do think it was a matter of verbal-over-motor development. They started talking at 6 mos, I kid you not, before Baby A even was rolling over well. They're still chatterboxes and not all that physical, but they hold their own in gymnastics class, etc.

Afriend who is a speech therapist reminds me that a delay does not necessarily a disorder make. Anyway, I've heard we're not supposed to worry until 18 months. Mine just made that deadline, and they're doing fine now. HTH.

Amy at just under 12 months (she beat her birthday by like 3 days). Sarah not yet, so I chose 14-15 months for her, but that's just a guess based on how long it took Amy to go from cruising to walking. It was a surprisingly long time! I had always heard that once they cruised and took a couple staggering steps from one thing to another, walking was just days away, but it took Amy more like 4 weeks for that transition.

I am the "1" in the poll under Baby A from 18-24 months. She JUST started at 22 months, now she's walking all over like it's no big deal, but she had me worrying, even though lots of specialists said there was nothing wrong. Her sister started walking MORE THAN A YEAR before her (at 11 months). People kept telling me they all catch up, and it was true.

    Best,
    Mia

My singletons were at 9 months, 11 months, and 11 months respectively and my twins were/are Aaron "A" taking first steps now at 13 months and Glory "B" walking at 10 months. I couldn't answer the poll for my son so I posted it here. [IMG]

Oh, and mine were 34 weeks 6 days.

Both of mine started walking at 18 months. I was worried even though pedi assured me there was quite a range. Now I can't keep up with them and laugh at my worry! They just took their own sweet time [IMG]

Oh - and they were 7 weeks early.

I didn't know how to vote, either! Brianna started walking on her own 2 weeks before they turned 1 and Aidann started on her own 2 weeks after they turned 1!

Singletons: Jennica walked just before her first birthday. Joshua literally went from crawling to running at 9 months. He skipped the walking stage! Samara and both the twins walked at 15 months.

Katelyn is always a little ahead in physical milestones. She started cruising around 9.5 months and walking on hand around a month later. Around 10.5ths she would months she would take 3-4 steps solo. At 11.5 months, she walked across the living room-empty because new carpet had been put in and they both loved all the space! She walked across then back later that day and hasn't really stopped. Jessica cruised at about 10 months and 3-4 solo steps at 11 months. Last week she started walking the length of the living room solo and now walks around that room all the time. She is timid and wants her hand held outside of the living room.

BTW-at their 12 month appt. the ped. said their pincer grip was a more important milestone at this point than walking.

Lily (Baby A) was 11 months and Alana was 13 months. They were 31 weekers so I wasn't expecting walking til much later on. My oldest DD was a very early walker (first steps at 6 1/2 months and I have it on tape!). It was a little creepy since she was so small and running all over the place. Tamara

Our girls both walked between 16-17 months. Ainsley just got up and started walking one day while Sierra worked at it for a few weeks after seeing her sister do it.

My girls started really walking at 16 months. They were preemies so with their adjusted age they were 14 months. Which is how old my DS was when he started walking.
