When did your babies outgrow their infant carriers?

My babes are barely even 9 months old but I think they have outgrown thier infant carriers. We have SnugRides and the belts are extented as much as they can go and are getting tight, and their little feet hang out a few inches over the edge (they are tall babies.) I thought these things were supposed to last awhile ... anywho, so when did your babies outgrow their seats? And what do I go to next? Aren't they still supposed to be rear-facing when they are this little?

we used our snugrides for a long time...i think they grew out of them around 1.5-11 months. you need to get a convertible carseat next. it still allows them to face backwards...then when they are 20 lbs. AND one year old, you can face the carseats forward. we bought the alpha omega elite carseats. they rear and forward face and convert into a booster seat later on.

    good luck!

Mine are about a week away from outgrowing theirs...and they're only 6 months old! I have tall babies.

You can just move them into a convertible car seat, you can still rear face them. I would do some searching and compare to see what the weight limit is on it. I believe they go as high as 80 but those are britax and you can be sure you will spend a pretty penny on it.

Just after their 6month appt we made the move to the convertible car seats. My DS was already 20lbs and our orig car seats only went to 22lbs so we put them rear facing in the convertible type.

It's not how long their legs are, but how far their head is from the top of the seat. They need to have an inch minimum. My guys *just* outgrew their infant carriers.

We changed over about a month ago, they were about 21 pounds. They were just getting to heavy and awkward the carry in the infant ones.

We just got our new ones delivered yesterday, but still in the box right now! On the great advice and research of TS mom username Sophiesmom, I went with the Fisher Price Safe Voyage. This seat is identical to a Britax Marathon, and it is made by Britax for Fisher price. So you are basically getting an awesome, high quality, all the best ratings, etc, seat, for half the price, because it comes in a Fisher Price box instead of a Britax box, but remember, it's made BY Britax!

I went ahead and ordered them, because I did a bunch of searching on the internet, and couldn't beat this price! Plus free shipping and no sales tax!

Good luck with whatever you decide. Not sure when we'll actually switch by my babies are pretty long too and they're feet are hanging out, etc.

Since your little ones are tall, they are probably well past the height limit for the seat at 9 months old. While the weight limit is often about 20 lbs, there is a height limit as well and it is often printed on the side of the seat.

Our girls outgrew their infant seats height-wise at 6.5 and 7 months old. They didn't hit 20 lbs until after 1 year old. Dax outgrew his infant seat height-wise at 4 months old. He's probably just getting close to 20 lbs now at 6 months old.

Eeeer, my boys were 20lbs at 5 months old. LOL. We moved up to Evenflo triumph deluxes at that time and they are still in them now (they are 33 and 35lbs). My friend's baby outgrew their infant carrier at 3 months!!! I didn't envy her (as a note, that baby is now smaller than my two).

We switched at 5 months because they were getting to heavy to carry for me! We did rear facing until 11 months. I know it was one month early but they met the weight requirement and their legs were getting long.

We are going to make the switch very soon ... probably right after their 6 month appt ... my DS was 18lbs at his 4 month appt and we think he is about 20lbs now. The Snugride (which we also have) is 22lbs or 29 inches. So since he is such a chubb, we will be switching shortly. So I must say good bye to my infant carriers and my snap and go! But my DS is getting SO heavy to carry in the carrier anyway, it's time.

The infant carriers we had said they should be 20lbs before they switch but Jack was about 18lbs when we switched him at say 9.5 months and even now Sophie is not 20lbs but i had to change her over at 15 months because it was such a shame for her to still be in her infant carrier!! x
